So is it just a matter of degree then? IMHO, Torture is torture. Christopher Hitchens was right when he used the word torture after he underwent a relatively mild form of waterboarding.

Let's get clear what we are talking about. The CIA's version requires a doctor to monitor the oxygen level in the blood to make sure they're brought to the very edge of death before flipping them upright and allowing them to breath. Rinse and repeat 183 times. If that isn't torture, what is? Somehow....I suspect you would agree with me if that happened to you.

Let me also note that the use of waterboarding has not been limited to foreigners. It was used on an American citizen. Ronald Reagan prosecuted a Texas sheriff for doing the same.

Again, why do you want to give the likes of Obama this incredible power? Perhaps you should skip watching the next episode of "24" and take some time to read what Lord Acton said about power instead. You might learn something about human nature and governments.

Let me elaborate.

America doen’t torture armed combatants. Bush didn’t. Obama has no authority to do so now and never has. I do not understand what you are going on about. Can we stop now?

You are entitled to your opinion, I will withold mine until Obama releases the documents that tell us how many terrorist operations were stopped.

Well.....whether such documents exist, Obama thinks like Bush when it comes to the release of information to the public. The recent decision on the photos is one of many examples of his Bush-like mentality. The two really have much more in common than is often recognized as in, for example, their disasterous Afghan and Pakistan policies. Both agree on the need to expand presidential powers and both regard themselves as modern versions of Woodrow Wilson. In the process, freedom and limited government suffer.

I quite agree. You are backing up my point. This is torture by a U.S. ally. If the American government knowlingly supports such a government, how can it be trusted to administer the torture of water torture?

Doesn’t torture armed combatants? What is your point? We know that it has tortured at least one American citizen, Jose Padilla, and that is a crime. If Pelosi knew, she too should be in jail. Of course, Pelosi nor those adminstered this will ever go to jail. These Demopublicans stick together when it comes shredding the bill of rights!
