Another disgusting display of police acting out of line. There is no reason for this kind of act.

LOS ANGELES -- Despite lying on the ground with his arms and legs spread, a suspect got a face full of police boot on Wednesday. The kicking cop added insult to injury by giving a post-beating high five. The brutality was the final chapter of a pursuit that began about 1:30 p.m. at an attempted traffic stop in El Monte, Calif. Police tried to stop the motorist for a traffic violation, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Nunez.

How long have you been in law enforcement?

Yeah, but you're a chick.

I'm sorry, but my ovaries don't inform my thinking process.

In 40 years, I have had one experience with being a victim of crime. It was a petty theft. Given that I am reasonable about personal safety, I tend to not fear my fellow citizens much.

I have, however, had a number of experiences with arrogant, overzealous police officers. Allowing them additional latitude to manhandle citizens as long as they say he/she was resisting places us in far more danger than any posed by most criminals.

The circumstances of my experiences with police consist of:

-Being a teen driving at night. The cop lied about my tags being expired as an excuse to pull me over, as he had NO legitimate reason.
-A neighbor called in a noise complaint at my childhood home. The police came up screaming and yelling and threatening everyone in sight. They seized upon the pickle jar my pet lizard was in, quite sure it was full of pot and who knows what nefarious substances!
-Based upon a schoolyard rumor no one had even tried to confirm, a police officer bullied my son in my presence (who knows what would have happened had I not been there).
-My brother, while learning to drive and with a parent in the car, rolled through a stop sign and didn't realize a policeman was behind him with his lights on. When my brother pulled over, the cop was screaming and yelling and threatening all kinds of stuff until he saw my mother in the car.

NONE of these situations warranted the response I saw from police officers.

Now I will be called a cop hater, but yes, I am well aware that many cops have and do misuse their authority.

there. I said it. I would never deny it. Not only that, but I think holding police officers to highest standard of professional conduct makes for a better police force. I believe that most cops want to work for a professional workforce.

I do not believe that cops should be able to lie about a suspect resisting in order to beat on them.

Now, I still believe that if you CHOOSE to run from, fight or escape by car from a cop exercising his LAWFUL authority, you should be liable to getting your ass beat.

And sorry, but no, I don't see any dilemma there. We trust cops with using lethal force, and judge each incident on its own merits. I see no reason why we can't do the same with some judicious attitude adjustment.

We trust cops with using lethal force, and judge each incident on its own merits.

The problem is that the only justification you can possibly have for this officer's actions is to teach the kid a lesson or because the cop was mad.

Don't you see how quickly that can morph into "Well, the teenaged kid was mouthing off and I thought he needed to learn respect so I kicked him a few times."

The line between resisting and surrendering is, mostly, a clear one. Sometimes the line between the two is mere moments and we can, and do judge those cases. To make that line less clear by saying in some circumstances it's ok to kick suspects who are compliant will lead to pushing the envelope because it's so subjective.

But there will be an investigation, and even it will cost us. There WILL be a lawsuit and that will cost us millions. THANK YOU, OFFICER. Your toe wrote a check that we citizens are now going to have to cash. And the moron you kicked will be spending it all on crack, pot, and hookers.

We’ve raised a nation of girly men. Getting kicked in the head by a cop was a rite of passage when I was a kid.

If that kid had killed 6 or 7 people while flying down the road, we would be blaming the cop for that too. Why do Americans always want to side with our enemies?

Do you actually read my comments before replying? When did I say that FR is a “sea of anti police”? I said there are some on FR who indeed ARE anti Police as some of the comments on this thread attest to. So the next time think before you reply to my comments. You write like you have the capability for intelligent thought. You don’t need to stretch the truth.

What does that say about you?

Holy crap did this all really happen to you? I'll see if I can get Al Sharptons phone number for you. Apparently our LEO’s are out of control and need Federal oversight!! Yes, more Government interference in our lives!! God only knows what evil cops the Nation over are planning right now as they get ready to patrol the streets of our city.

Perhaps right now, a future FReeper has been pulled over driving his girlfriend to work and is having his pride murdered by a cop as his gf watches. He will soon comment on another future FR thread equating cops with Nazis...as happened a few days ago.

Maybe later tonight, some baggy pant wearing, rap listening- wanna-be-eminem, will lead police on a high speed chase or point his ‘gat’ at a cop. When the cops catch this spoiled little punk, I hope they do give him the beat down his Mommy never did because she didn't want to hurt her little princes’ self-esteem because we all know that her son is the best.

Yes, I guess we are living in a Police state with all these outta-control rude cops running around there hurting our sons self-esteem. If my son ever did anything stupid like that jack-off on the video, I hope the cops who catch him teach him a lesson.

Un-F***ing-believable that there are some who post on, as another FReeper put it....”The premier conservative internet site” who have such an anti-cop attitude.

In case you were unaware, here is the lovely thread that morally compares cops to Nazis on this, “The premier conservative Internet site.”

they are legitimate authority

Not this guy. His behavior shows that, for him, the uniform is just one more set of gang colors.

No presumtion of innocence? How about No one (including this police officer) is above the law?
Sorry, I know those concepts are old and outdated, but I grew up with them, and I just can’t seem to get beyond them.

Trailerpark Badass will be along shortly to explain how the Rule Of Law is just an irrelevant dead-white-male social construct, and show you how to read the emanations from the penumbrae....

“clearly had given up and the cop walked up and kicked him in the face”

Well, he hadnt given up for an hour and half prior.

Again, I hate cop beatings but this is not beating. The criminal saw one cop coming and he did go down.

But was this to get him within wrestling range to grab his gun.

That one shot to the face was necessary to break his concentration so he could not get the jump on the cop.

Other beatings and shootings were just plain wrong - Ruby Ridge, that Haitian in New York sittin on the steps and 32 shots were fired - I think I even sided with Rodney the first time (not the second - what an asshole).

When I was a kid cops got respect because we knew they were the good guys and if we f’ed with them we would get a can of woop ass.

Let me break it to ya: They aren't the good guys anymore. They kick suspects in the face, they drape paraplegics over walls to frisk them, they taze people in wheelchairs, they shoot hogtied suspects in the back, grandmas in wheelchairs (during no-knock raids) and so on.

And each and every time they get away with it.

What is it with some of you FReepers that side with liberals and seem to hate cops? And don’t say that “We only hate bad cops.” Bullshit. Not from what I seen on here lately.

I do only hate the bad cops. The problem is that's all of them. There's the 1% or so who are total psychopaths, the 5-10% who are just a-holes and the remainder who protect those others with everything they have just because of the badge.

No, it's what he DIDN'T do when he decided to try and make a break for it.

Doesn't matter. Once the guy submits the police arrest and the system takes over.

Cops dishing out punishment on the street is what leads to reasonable folks hating the police and, therefore, refusing to call them.

That's a recipe for lawlessness.

The candy asses you're referring to are those that penned and support the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the 14th amendment and the ones that passed the 18USC24x series fed statutes. The boy clearly surrendered and laid on the ground with his hands extended, as per the verbal command of the officer that kicked him in the face. What happened before that is completely irrelevant. The officer committed a federal felony by violating the perp's rights under the color of law, by committing the unjustified battery, the kick in the face(a CA felony).

Well said.

I wonder if any of our FRiends willing to submit to the jackboots understand any of it.

They've clearly forgotten who the police actually work for. . .

Your probably the kind of guy that needs someone to buy him a beer a two before being “willing to bend over and take it in the pooper anytime, anywhere. “
