It is addressed to “Resident”.
It says my “address” (not me “personally”) have been asked to participate in the “American Community Survey”, which will arrive in a few days.
It came with a letter and a brochure (in several languages) that says it collects information on “education, housing, and jobs” to “decide where schools, highways, hospitals, and other services are needed”.
I says that I am required by law to respond.
Wait a darn minute! How did I become fortunate enough to have to take the “regular census” and this “American Community Survey” nonsense?
Doesn't the 10 year Census tell them all they need to know?
Why do this (under penalty of law) twice?
They are spending our tax dollars twice here but to what end?
Any thoughts?
I have the same feeling, we are seeing “Left Behind” come to real life.
If you didn’t sign for it, throw it away, they can’t prove you got it. Make life difficult for them.

I heard from a friend that someone was putting some kind of identifiers on gate posts in his little town.
So much for my theory that being in the sticks would deter them.

Right... just like it is already linked to my... address. Also a mappable thing. It doesn't change anything.
They're just using a new tool. It's pretty much the same kind of data they've always had. The problem isn't the data-- it's what they'll do with it now that the White House owns it. I'm guessing they're going to do some intense gerrymandering of congressional districts in advance of the coming elections. Now that they've got power they have the perfect tool to keep it.

Google will not positively identify one’s house. It will give the where abouts, but not the exact house. When I pull my home up, it shows my whole street, it is up to you to know WHICH house it is.

If everybody called the sheriff or police, pretty soon they will stop responding because it will be too much of a headache. I have no idea who he works for. FWIW, I just confirmed this report with a recent college grad who got a job working the census, since he couldn’t find a job in his field.
Sorry, I had skimmed through a few and missed that.
But not to your income, ethnicity, and a host of other things they will want to know when they come around with their questions. We know perfectly well that this database will soon be compromised. I think the only thing you're required to tell is the number of people living in your house. That's what I plan to do. In 2000, I refused to give any other information.

Not any more, several years ago the accuracy restraints were lifted. They are used to survey, grade roads, etc, now accurate to within a fraction of an inch
