Is It Time to Invade Pakistan?

There is no way we can allow the Taliban in concert with al-Qaeda to take over the nuke facilities in Pakistan. One would hope that the Pakistanis would have moved the weapons after the previous attacks and it is imperative that the Obama administration find out if they were indeed secreted out to another location. If not, we must press strongly for providing assistance and if they decline we must insist in the strongest possible terms. If that doesn't work, an invasion may need to be considered. A nuclear al-Qaeda is the worst of all possible scenarios. A tight blockade of the entire Pakistani coastline would be a requisite action and stopping and boarding all ships would be the only way we could ensure that a nuke was not smuggled out of the country. An action along the northern frontier to prevent transport out through one of the "stans" or west through Iran would require a major effort.

America under Obama will not take any appropriate ass kicking action to stop this. The Obama Administration has already declared that there are NO TERRORISTS.
However neither India nor Israel can allow the Tally Bon to get anywhere near access to Pakistans military might. India would invade if it beleived that was happening and Israel would probally use tactical nuke strikes to destroy either the Tally Bon or the Pakistani nukes.
The world moves closer to the end times thanks to a weak American President.

If I were Israel I’d be a tad concerned. If the Taliban gets ahold of those nukes Iran wont have to do anymore work to develope theirs.

I’d bet if that happens the Indians and Israel will become strange allies.

Its gonna be the big one Elizabeth.

And invasion like this would number the casualties in the tens of thousands.

And what would be the casuality numbers with a nuclear armed Taliban?

Its not only possible, its a near certainty. Not as in an Iraq style takeover. It will be a massive “secure the nukes” operation. They are stored in a dissassembled state an monitored by us. Any realistic threat they will fall into the hands of a Taliban style revolt will trigger an immediate USA raid. A strong force of US troops secure the site and remove the weapons, and our air wipes out the Paki AF if they remotely threaten the OP.

Then we leave, we wont try to seize and hold. And Pakistan is immense in Population and size compared to Iraq.

Exactly, the only thing that might save them is that Obama will be a traitor to US, and protect them. But if he lets the Taliban and Osama get nukes, he’s over as president.

Doubt we would get those casualties in tens of thousands unless we stayed. The Paki Army simply isnt mobile enough, or logistically proficient enough, to truly fight the USA force-on-force. We could seize, hold, and take any nuke storage area over there when we want. Cut off the Paki Army from reinforcing that zone with our air power. Destroy their AF on the ground, then extract, bringing their Nukes with us.

Put down the crack pipe. It’s more likely that Obama will put on special boots and jump right up to the moon.

I have a professor from Afghanistan who has said for 15 years that Pakistan is the most dangerous country in the world. He’s totally right.

The Taliban is 60 miles from Islamabad. 0bama will never invade, so I’d say our only real hope is India. Maybe Karzai will continue sending Afghan troops across the border to deal with cross-border AQ/Taliban attackers, but to actually clean out Waziristan and the NWFP will take an invasion. And unfortunately it won’t be coming from us.

Not completely. The most dangerous thing in the world is a Democrat who senses a danger to their domestic power base.

"Invade" Pakistan - well, no, not for its own sake. That isn't an objective. It may be a means to an objective once one is identified. There may be better means.

The real difficulty is that neither the formal government nor the Taliban want us to do this and that the nuclear weapons whose possession would likely be in play as a result, we don't want in play. India is understandably reluctant to re-ignite the passions of the mid 40's, particularly in view of the potential cost of a long-term occupation of a traditional foe. It would likely turn into Iraq Redux, and unfortunately in Mr. Obama we do not have Bush Redux.

And that's a pity, because that country really is a major sanctuary and breeding ground for militant Islamists. Should we wish to force a more or less conventional confrontation with them that would be the place to do it. I would much rather seize the initiative and prosecute the war there, because with nuclear weapons in the hands of the Taliban it is highly likely to come here eventually. But the political will to do what must be done simply isn't there and Bambi isn't going to find it in Brussels or the UN.

If I remember correctly, the fuss about Obama wanting to invade pakistan was when Musharraf was still running the show. Thanks to the libs, we now have a bunch of weenies ransacking the Pak. treasury, while the barbarians march ever closer.

Musharraf may have been a son of a bitch, but at least he was somewhat controllable. Now pakistan resembles a headless chicken running around with the wolves closing in.

I used to be concerned about nukes in the hands of the Islamofascists but watching our nation crumble right now, without any use of weapons of mass destruction, makes me rethink things. We’re back to September 10th, 2001 thinking. I’m convinced that the only thing that will wake us up is to experience another attack on our country equal to or greater than 9/11/2001.

Iraq had one of the biggest armies in the world when we creamed them back in the 90’s.

And now a clearer picture developes of how Israel feels affected by an Iranian nuke. You could change just one word in your sentence above to reflect Israel’s challenge with Iran. Just type in “Iranians” rather than “Taliban”

Thanks for that input, ianmb. Something needs to be done, that’s a fact, but it seems to me that we don’t want Pakistan to become an enemy of the U.S. It’s time to put pressure on them that they either allow us to “help” them fight the Taliban on their soil, or we’ll let India take care of the problem. (half kidding, half not)

Major commanders/trainers can be behind the scenes without an official “invasion”... Let Pakistani Muslims “take” the heat on the front line of Islamic terror that threatens THEM first.
