You said - -History has shown us that if a nation/state musters up the necessary will the pirates can be defeated. Of course, for us in the twenty-first century the big question is, will this leftist, appeasement-oriented Obama adminstration somehow find the necessary fortitude to follow through on these essential steps? We know our military is capable and ready. But is our pacifistic Democratic Party and it’s culturally conflicted president? We shall see. - rg

Well, as I’ve been posting here, all along on this story, I see no point in doing anything other than what we did, in getting our captain back. I’ve even said that I would go along with a 10-to-1 “hit” back on the pirates to make sure they’ve learned the lesson about Americans.

Other than that, we have no obligation to “clean up the mess” that other countries and/or their shipping companies have made themselves.

We’re not the ones who paid ransoms. We haven’t been encouraging those pirates like all the other countries and/or shipping companies have been doing. We (the U.S.) did not make this mess, so there is no reason for us to “bail out” the rest of the world and clean up their mess.

We’ve got our captain, and we can send off a message to the pirates (whack them up side the head for good measure and make them “pay a price” is okay). But, past that, make the rest of the world *pay* for their own messes.

We’ve got enough “bailouts” on the table with this present administration and we don’t need to be paying for “more bailouts” for the rest of the world...

The situation was the same around the turn of the 19th century. European countries were content to buy off the Barbary pirates. We cleaned them out,
