The situation was the same around the turn of the 19th century. European countries were content to buy off the Barbary pirates. We cleaned them out,
The difference was we were paying ransom or tribute back then. We’re not paying ransom now.
And additionally, before this event, the pirates in Somalia didn’t bother us. They might have been bothering all those others who continued paying ransoms, but the U.S. wasn’t paying ransoms and it also was not bothered.
And furthermore, since it’s all those other countries who *made the mess* in the first place — I see no good reason for the U.S, to put *more bailout money* on the table to start bailing out other countries in the world.
We’ve got quite enough “bailout money” on the table, as it is. We don’t need to be paying to clean up the messes that a bunch of other countries in the world did to themselves.
Knock the pirates around a bit, smack them back about 10-to-1 and then let the other countries deal with it — with *their own money* and not get a “free ride” off our money...
