She got a bowl of dog food, and I’m sure there will be some snacks when supper is cleaned up. She seems to be happy that her blankets are clean.
Our Memorial Day's been busy.
Took #2 Son to participate in a parade with the Navy League Cadet Corps this morning at 8:30. Then, this afternoon at 12:30, took the whole family to an observance put on by the local veterans groups at the War Memorial in Pleasant Hill, CA. Local RAT State Senator spoke. I had trepidations, but he earned some respect from me by keeping his comments appropriate to the occasion, and doing a good job of it, I might add.
The Navy Sea Cadets provide Color Guard for the event, while the Leaguers put in Community Service passing out programs, and keeping the attendees stocked with cold bottled water.
The Firing Squad was provided by the Military History Preservation Group, which sent seven guys each dressed in an Army uniform from a different conflict; from the Civil War to Gulf War II. Firing twenty-one guns using weapons from all those different wars was pretty unique. And, of course, my boys were out there afterward scooping up any brass they could find.
Closing it out, #2 Son went around and collected business cards from several people, including the V.P. of the Military History Preservation Group, and -- egad! -- the keynote speaker: Rear Admiral, Russel Gorman, USN (Ret).
Who knows? Maybe he'll need an Academy Recommendation someday?
Mrs. HKMk23 has now left the premesis, and is baking cakes over at a friend's house, while all my children play -- nicely [I hope] -- with all of theirs.
Baby girl is at home with me, and sleeping. Ahhh, blessed peace!
