What in the world is wrong with me? Last week the water was partially shut off at my dog park in liberal rich Hollywood FL. My lab mix will not drink at the park unless he can do it from a kiddie pool so I ended up using a bucket at the water fountain to try to fill the pool at least a bit. A lady who is very nice but wore an Obama shirt both before and after the election tried to help me.
Mind you I like her dogs and as I said she is nice, but still I refused her help purely on instinct. Somehow, I feel that I could have handled this better. What do we do, attempt to reason with them? Ask them if they are happy with their choice? Or simply shun them? I really do not know.
I am going to run into this day after day since I am in Broward County FL. If there is some way to change minds and hearts, please help me out. What do you say to these fools who put us in this horrible situation?
I suggest wearing a button that says “Obama: Destroying America every day with higher taxes and deeper debt”
Or “Obama: destroying America one business at a time”
And be as nice and polite as possible.
Being mean causes people to harden their views.
A kind sincere word can have a disarming effect on some (not all) Obama worshipers.
Mocking Obama is also very effective in showing his worshipers that he is not deity incarnate.
My dog dug through her kiddie pool last summer. A whole bottom made of just duct tape doesn't work well either.
Now we have to get a new one. I think she'll like the whale one with the working spout.
Oh, I don't know. My neighborhood is full of college professors. No coolness whatsoever.
You live up to your user name, Reaganesque, that was the classy approach.
lovesdogs: If you don’t want to be around Obama supporters in Florida, I suggest you stay indoors. If you really want to try to convince them of the merits of any of your viewpoints, being rude or standoffish isn’t the best way to start.
I think you are feeling pride. From a Christian perspective, it’s a bad thing. The fact that you realize it’s not working is a good sign.
Honestly, I’d take her help. Don’t think you have to pretend you are someone you’re not. You have your dogs in common.
You could be honest, too. You could say, “I appreciate your help and I think your dog is great, but I have the hardest time getting along with Obama supporters. I am so unhappy with what he is doing right now.”
If you say it calmly and reasonably, she could
-take offense and go away, in which case you have done nothing wrong,
- talk to you about it. or,
-ignore what you said, but at least you said what you have to say.
If she talks to you about it, stick to your convictions but don’t fight about them. You may make a point or two.
If we never talk to liberals, I am not sure how we are ever going to change their minds about anything.
My mom is a liberal Democrat. I talk to her about various issues. I’d like to think I make headway here and there.
Didn’t begin with “so”.
No cops jumping out of the bushes
“liberal” lady needed to be more aggressive, raving about sending Bush to the Hague or something.
Angry confrontation needs to end with her stomping off muttering in disgust or,
A tearful conversion to the right way of thinking and an apology for voting democrat.
Obama shirt was ok
I award no points, bad bouncy.
forget about politics. Save your political discussions for here at FR. That’s what I do.
Buy Ann Coulter’s Book..How to talk to a Liberal (if you must).
Actually, I have been E-Mailing to/from a Liberal met thru a common Friend. He is a typical Liberal.
Constant Bush bashing (even now), Emotionally Immature, race baiting Religious bashing Hater.
Liberals are not happy people for some Reason.....I think you did the right thing....
Its a win win situation!
Many liberals live in a group speak echo chamber where they never encounter opposition to their views. Their principles are developed in a vacuum and are never exposed to the real world. When encountering opposition they have no real intellectual supports to back up their beliefs. Therefore they go nuts on any one who opposes their reality. For the most point their problem is arrested development. Liberals have a hard time seeing anyone’s point of view besides their own and labor under the delusion that life is fair. They tend not to like anything, such as religion that puts someone else above their EGO and holds them accountable for their actions.
Liberals also are great at making themselves the exception to the rule. They are fantastic rationalizes. They always have a really good reason why they are not held to the same standard as the rest of us. Bill and Hillary are prefect examples and now BO
I like to shun the liberals, act like there’s something wrong with them but not tell them what it is. The world is so evil to them and yet they are the ones who make it evil. Why not play into their delusions?
Living with Liberals is like being one of the few sane inmates in an insane asylum where both the inhabitants and staff are all insane.
Learn to live sanely in a mental hospital and that is a good first step to learning to live among Liberals.
Buy yourself a few nifty anti Obama t shirts and wear them to the park. You know that “Welcome Back Carter” with the Obama face is really nice. :D
“How Can You Tolerate Liberals?” I can’t and don’t.
Do the same thing as a conservative one should do as a Christian, set the best possible example you can. Smile, be friendly, let her know the stereotyped opinions she may have of you is absolutely false.
I don't.
There was a point- can’t recall which of a seemingly infinite series of outrages- during the Clinton Darkness— when I just gave up.
Nothing you say, no proof, no evidence, no eyewitnesses- will convince True Believers that the cheapjack jiveass little god they support has feet of clay. This would admit their own faults, and we can’t have that, now.
Stick to talking about dogs...
“Have you considered that anyone who uses the kiddie pool for its intended purpose might be saying the same about you?”
Sorry, That does look bad. Actually it is a dog park. No kiddies actually use the pool.
