Those who say soccer sucks do so because they are unfamiliar with the game. Soccer is a game of true beauty.
Take football, for example. It is highly scripted by a multitude of coaches and players actually play for 20 seconds and then huddle to get the scripted play from the coach. Soccer, on the other hand, is a players game, with players devising strategy and making plays.
Soccer is really an awesome game once you understand it.
IOW, sloooooooooow hockey played on grass.
I understand that paint dries and grass grows, but watching it happen is really boring.
Soccer isn't exactly an "awesome game," though -- for different reasons. Its lack of "scripting" may have a lot to do with why it is so dull in many ways. It's worth noting (at least in my experience) that an inordinate number of goals in soccer are scored under "scripted" conditions (corner kicks, free kicks, penalty kicks, etc.).
Soccer has some serious flaws that really limit its appeal here in the U.S.
“Soccer, on the other hand, is a players game, with players devising strategy and making plays.”
No, soccer is a euro-socialist sport that provides great exercise for US preschoolers, but that’s about is. My favorite soccer match, though, is Monty Python’s epic battle between the German and Greek philosophers.
no matter how you try to sell it, it’s still BORING.
I played for years, then i found lacrosse. SOCCER SUCKS.

No everybody understands it. People are either young enough to have played it or old enough that your kids played it. The lack of scripting is what makes it boring.
