GOP Chairman Michael Steele Calls Limbaugh Comments "Incendiary and Ugly" - Video 2/28/09

Here is video of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele talking with CNN's D.L. Hughley last night, and calling comments made by Rush Limbaugh during his speech to CPAC "incendiary and ugly." Steele said Limbaugh is not the de facto leader of the Republican Party, and that he is an "entertainter."

This is exactly the point Rush Limbaugh was trying to make in his speech. Republicans need to stop worrying about what the D.L. Hughley's think! They will never like conservatives or Republicans, because they are liberals! Steele should not have disavowed, in effect, what Rush said. He should have hammered home the core principles set forth by Limbaugh in his speech. . . . . (Watch Video)

So Steele doesn’t “get it,” I’m shocked!

Who actually “selects” the GOP chairman?

Can we force a conservative into office through grassroots activism... just wondering.

The Republican Party whores like Steele do not want lines. Instead they want to transcend across ideological plains with the hyper-collectivist who constantly play them like a Stradivarius.

well said.

I think Steele might be a Dem plant to destroy the GOP from the inside.

The Dems really like for us to continue to kill our own ...

I have been a registered Republican for 40+ years. With this, I am resigning my membership in the party. I am going to join the Libertarian party. They’re the only ones who have a distinct political and economic philosophy.

Even if he could become courageous, It wouldn’t suffice for what is missing from his heart (silk purse/Sows ear...)

Congratulations on overcoming a very difficult medical condition. For every one like you there are hundreds that never developed the discipline to follow through.

I have had many employees over the years that suffered from ADD/ADHD and almost to a one they wee not successful in relatively simple work tasks. My companies will not hire anyone on Ritalan or if they have been on it in the past. It is just to costly for us to hire them and then they have a "bad" period and have to get rid of them. We have developed job testing that ALL candidates go through and weed out the severe cases up front. Mostly these are men under 30. I have come to believe that many cases were the result of learning self control at a young age and many are a genuine medical condition. My original point was that in many ways the way Rush does his show people who cannot focus for extended periods of time (4-6 minutes in the case of Rush) often simply cannot follow Rush through a discussion. Many times he does the show in ADHD manner. Often he ties it all together in the end but not always. Part of that is the flow of following callers.

Can’t watch the video. Do not know the site. Is there a transcript. I believe that these statements must have been taken out of context.

From what I have heard of Rush's speech, both Steele and Rush are saying much the same thing. The meaning is there, maybe the words are different.

How many making comments here have actually watched the video?

I am 63 years old. A Viet Nam Vet, two tours. I have been a conservative all my life. My future is diminishing in time as I enter the later stages of life. It is not my future that I fear but rather the future of those who will not fight for the country they were fortunate to be born in. My comments were not directed personally at you but to those to whom you referred. Five weeks? Is it time on Free Republic that earned one the right to speak on matters of courage? I have paid my dues to this country and earned my right to speak.

Regards

Rush was right on the money in his speech. It's a shame that the leader of the republican party (a formerly conservative party) would consider those great words as “incendiary and ugly” when in fact, Rush merely spoke what the majority of us are thinking.

I’m accusing Steele of jumping to his black, socialist, brother’s defense against someone who should be, but apparently isn’t, his ideological brother.

If this is true, then Steele has no business holding a position of leadership in the Republican Party.

For everyone equivocating on what Steele said, forget it.

He caved, he folded like a cheap camera instead of defending Limbaugh, he said he’s an entertainer and VOLUNTEERED the words INCENDIARY and UGLY in describing Rush and his show.

Hate to say it about Steele, but some of us TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!

RINO ALERT!

What a shortsighted thing to say Mikie. Focus on Obama, Grasshopper . Focus on Reid, you Mental Midget. Focus on Pelosie, Oh Dim Witted One.

Fine! They could have chosen Ken Blackwell and accomplished their mission AND we would have had a conservative!
