GOP Chairman Michael Steele Calls Limbaugh Comments "Incendiary and Ugly" - Video 2/28/09

Here is video of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele talking with CNN's D.L. Hughley last night, and calling comments made by Rush Limbaugh during his speech to CPAC "incendiary and ugly." Steele said Limbaugh is not the de facto leader of the Republican Party, and that he is an "entertainter."

This is exactly the point Rush Limbaugh was trying to make in his speech. Republicans need to stop worrying about what the D.L. Hughley's think! They will never like conservatives or Republicans, because they are liberals! Steele should not have disavowed, in effect, what Rush said. He should have hammered home the core principles set forth by Limbaugh in his speech. . . . . (Watch Video)

“Answering such a falsehood is not sound bite stuff. It takes time and organization.”

BUT......Steele nodded in agreement. Even if it was a rookie mistake...it is a costly one and we can’t afford that kind of ‘sound bite’ stuff right now.

Looks like Hughley gets the Dems talking points memo. We should hear the phrase “de facto head of the Republican Party” a lot in the next few days.

How about going after the enemy rather than creating a false all or nothing atmonsphere: “I didn’t send anything before and I’m sure not going to after that . . .”

Michael Steele and his party are dead to me. I’m with Rush.

So the GOP and the liberal MSM have the same talking points when it comes to Rush.

On FOX analysis after Rush spoke to CPAC yesterday the liberal gal kept saying “He’s just an entertainer”... Now that is Steele’s response.

Shame on the GOP and Steele proves what most of us here knew already. They can all go to hell. I imagine they are pretty sure we’ll all vote for them just to keep the dems out, well, think again.

I don't think he was putting Rush down.

He clearly stated Rush's comments were incendiary and ugly. Michael Steele is the right man to lead this party down the path it's been going down. It's over for them at this rate.

Steele’s “job” is to defend the GOP establishment and he’s doing it well. This was the same establishment (and it includes Romney, Gingrich, and the entire leadership) who gave use the billionaire banking bailout back in October.

“Rino” implies those who ignore the core principles.

The RINOs have core principles but they are not conservative.

I imagine they are pretty sure we’ll all vote for them just to keep the dems out,

Nothing imaginary about it. Why shouldn't be sure when most conservatives (including the vast majority on this site) marched loyally to the polls in November to vote for McCain even after he shilled for the billionaire bailout in October. Just you wait. It will happen again.

Excuse me, but I go after the ‘enemy’ pretty much every day all over the internet and I put my money where my mouth is too.

I understand your sentiments and have felt them myself at times when we all get to arguing or blasting our own party members. However, Rush said we were going to have to have this ‘fight’ in our party and he is right. There are elements in the republican party that want us to stop with all the ‘conservatism’. They are just as big an enemy to our party as the democrats imho. I am not saying Steele is one of them, but the man had better pick up his game.

He will only alienate more conservatives with talk like this. He has said some good stuff too lately, ie, his willingness to not give RNC support to Specter, Collins and Snowe. It was a good start...but he had better understand that Rush has millions of people behind him and he can not allow the democrats to bait him with their lies/talking points about Rush. He should have stood up for Rush and our party PERIOD instead of falling into the trap!

We really need GOP spokespeople who know what the hell they are doing. They are always on defence and allow themselves to be forced into answers that make them look idiotic.

Can’t anyone of them steer a conversation like the Dem spokespeople do? You don’t see Dem reps being manipulated into answers like these losers are. They take the offensive and change the subject immediately and steer the conversation to where they want it to go.

I wish the video was a bit longer so I could get a better grasp of the context. On the face of it it sounds as if what he said was what is presented in the headline. But just as Steele was getting started the other black guy and Hughley reverted to the ‘Rush is the Leader’ crap.

I like Steele. I am going try to find a complete video of that segment. What I am hoping to hear is ‘it might sound incendiary and ugly, but this is the way the base feels.’

OK, he stilled said Rush’s “I want him to fail” remark was “incendiary” and “ugly” and that was incredibly stupid to say. Rush Limbaugh is the best friend Michael Steele could have (politically speaking), and he’s not winning anyone over with talk like that.
