I need to get hammered. California spiraling into the Abyss...

The Country flirting with Communism.. looking into each other’s eyes with the promise of fruitful misery for all.

I am gonna go have a double shot of Orange Vodka.

"He didn’t inherit it. He *voted* for it.

Great, great, great point.

I hope that the Republicans who didn't vote for it drive that point home tomorrow and every day until November of 2010. Of course, they won't.

I can’t watch this liar, so I didn’t see this. If he were truthful, he should have said, “I voted for this trillion dollar deficit, along with my fellow Democrats who controlled the purse-strings of the federal government since 2006.” (Presidents can’t spend money, only the House and Senate.)

Obama voted for Tarp and basically negotiated it when he and McCain went to DC. Course he has no right to lecture anybody now.

Pray for America

Bingo. Dems have controlled congress for over two years now so they own any deficits incured over the past two years as well as the current crisis we now find ourselves in.

The repubs have a great opportunity here. They can step up to the mike tomorrow and say they are inspired by Obama’s speech. So inspired that they are removing every single republican sponsored ear mark from the spending bill, thereby saving millions of dollars. They can then invite the dems to do the same.

What's ironic is, as a Senator, Obama voted for the Bush budget, he voted for the 2008 Bush stimulus package, he voted for the bailouts for Bear Stearns and others, and Obama voted for the TARP bank bailout.

Obama whining that he inherited a deficit is kind of hypocritical.

He inherited a trillion dollar deficit and promptly decided to make it a two trillion dollar deficit. The fact that he can say that, knowing the media won’t call him on it, is truly scary.

No it is not. Was not Obama a part of the 750 billion stimulus package that congress passed before Bush left office? The dims have their finger prints all over that bill, and the one passed recently too. Inherited? No, they are part and parcel to blame for it. They also are to blame for this economic colapse as who was it in control of congress since 2007? Who signed the legislation that permitted U.S. manufacturing jobs to begin their trek overseas? Who pushed for the relaxing of mortgage rules resulting in loans being given to anyone with a pulse? Who will not permit the U.S. to drill for oil within our own oil reserves, forcing us to rely upon foreign oil (which as resulting in the largest transfer of wealth this country has ever seen)? If you say Bush, then you must be suffering from BDS.

From the article:

"The deficit is virtually certain to balloon even higher next year as the government sorts out the financial crisis and taps a $700 billion Treasury fund to buy toxic mortgage-related securities.

The next president is likely to have to scale back campaign pledges as he inherits a likely deficit for 2009 exceeding $500 billion.

The huge Bush budget deficit, plus the $700-billion TARP package equals over a trillion dollar deficit for 2009.

Only the first $350 billion of TARP funds were appropriated in '08. The remaining $350 billion was not appropriated until 2009 by the new Congress. Also, only the first five months of the current fiscal budget was appropriated in '08. That money runs out at the end of this month, so the remaining 7 months will be funded by the new Congress under a new appropriation. Of course the Democrats will insist that all this new 2009 spending gets tagged on Bush. At the same time, they will not assign the entire $787 billion of the so-called 'stimulus' bill onto the current year, instead deferring that spending onto future years. Once again, the Democrats play it both ways.

To say that we ran a deficit in 2008 of over $1 trillion is simply not true.
