I’ve always been sure they were insane. So many unions are self-destructive in this way.
An even bigger problem is the network of local extortio- eh, I mean contracts.

Old habits are hard to break. It’s their very nature. This is the first time in 50 years or more that the unions have not been in the driver’s seat. Up to now they were dealing with fat cat auto maker execs who would give to their demands rather than risk their cushy jobs at the car maker. It didn’t matter to the execs if they were making deals that would eventually bankrupt their employer. They were living, and negotiating, for the moment or for that year’s contract. The future be damned. Give ‘em what they want.
It’s the same game now, but the players are different. The exec’s very jobs are on the line now. The final decision has been kicked upstairs, to the Congress. The union figures Congress has already given in once, what’s to lose by calling their bluff.
Sadly I fear Congress will cave again.
There is only one way for to end eventually and that’s for Congress to hold the line. Anything else will just be insuring further demands and threats from the unions.
For my money, I say let ‘em go bankrupt. Let the union guys see what the rest of us live with out here.
That’s good. The salvation of the Big 3 is to bust their unions and pay competitive wages. This sounds more to me like the UAW jumped under their own bus.
It is easy to walk out when you have YOUR MAN in the White House. Obama is not going to let GM fall into bankruptcy and the union bosses know it. If he changes his mind they will be the first to know and will be back at the table in a nanosecond.
The UAW has not a concern for the "bail out" bill to pay off the Obama crones just passed and guarantee's UAW sustenance via generational payment.

So can we all admit that GM and Chrysler are no longer viable companies? It seems pretty obvious they can’t compete under the current union contracts, and the unions probably won’t go away until their hosts die...so move on and buy a Hyundai or Ford. Gm and Chrysler just aren’t going to be around in a decade or so, except maybe as a small division of one of their competitors.
I wonder how many people in the UAW buy foreign cars and don’t support their own companies. Right now I have a 2008 Mercury Sable, which I bought last year. I’m satisfied with it, and I recommend it.

The 22Lb. statement is pure bullshit. Subject collection of 11 1/2" X 8" papers contains all the letters of agreement from its first inception until present and has very little to do with the working contract book that is available to every union and non-union employee today..........

This article is inaccurate...the UAW has agreed to the concessions...a deal was struck. It’s the bondholders who are refusing to budge...one of them is Citibank...bailedout bank. I word for GM, the announcement was made Friday about the Unions.
