Harrisburg Economic and other concerns have weighed down on the usually high approval ratings of Gov. Ed Rendell, D, as well as U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., according to a Quinnipiac University Poll released yesterday.
Mr. Rendell now has a 47 percent approval rating, while 38 percent of registered Pennsylvania voters disapprove of his job performance. His approval among Democrats stands currently at 63 percent versus 25 percent who disapprove, while his favorable rating among Republicans is now only 31 percent, with 51 percent viewing him unfavorably. He has a slight edge with Independents 44 percent favorable and 41 percent unfavorable.
Quinnipiacs most recent numbers dont represent the worst the governor has seen from public opinion. He received a 46-percent favorable rating in April 2006 amid widespread discontent with a pay raise for public officials the governor signed and quickly repealed. Clay Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said the recent decline in public satisfaction with the governor owes to a nationwide discontent with the economy from which many politicians popularity ratings now suffer.
Its understandable and its not good, but this is happening to governors all over the country: Their numbers are dropping, Mr. Richards said. Its clear that its the economy thats dragging him down. Its not that bad yet.
The governor, who Mr. Richards sometimes refers to as Teflon Ed because of his heretofore resilient popularity, still fares better than the state General Assembly with its 39 percent approval rating and a 42 percent disapproval rating. Mr. Richards said the legislature has often become a sort of whipping boy for a dissatisfied public but said Mr. Rendell stays somewhat shielded from popular discontent.

Looks like an excellent opportunity for RINO hunting.
Death to Specter’s political career!
What is wrong with PA Reps?
Has anyone heard from PA’s second Senator?
I have no idea whether I will remain a Republican after the Leadership isn’t showing any signs of sanctioning Specter,Collins, and Snowe.
But I can promise you I will support both financially and with my labor, Pat Toomey or whoever the best challenger to Specter is.
He is very vulnerable. Hell, if we don’t beat him I will vote for a principled liberal Dem over that POS traitor.
How so? I suggest you read the entire article. Specter has higher approval ratings than Rendell and he has great support among Dems and is evenly split among Reps. Specter needs to be booted out of office, but it appears the main opportunity will be to do it in the primary. And even then, Specter will probably pull a Lieberman and run as an independent.
Therein lies the problem...
My comments was not a prediction, but rather a personal wish of mine.
Specter should go back to defending rapists and murderers like he did before becoming a Senator.
Just Emailed to GOPUSA:
House Republicans listened to their constituents about the stimulus bill, but three Senate TRAITORS sold themselves and their party out for a few moments of attention from the media.
These three need to be loudly and summarily EJECTED from the party BEFORE the final vote on the conference bill.
This would serve the dual purpose of re-defining the principles of Republicanism as a CONSERVATIVE body of thought and deprive the Democrats of their nonsense claim to bipartisan support for this pork-laden conglomeration of social engineering.
As long as these three are still listed as Republicans you will receive not a dime of my money, an instant of my time, or a syllable of my support.
PA voted for the O, so IMHO they will get everything they deserve.
This is a state that elected a government official who showed his contempt for them and insulted them.
Murtha called them racists and was re-elected.
Pennsylvania is lost.
There is NO Republican party in PA, only a Republicrat one. The Republicrats vote Democrat or for a RINO like Snarlin' Arlen.
“Murtha called them racists and was re-elected.
Pennsylvania is lost.”
So goes Pa., so goes the country.
Our Republic is lost.
