Cloud computing will eliminate most corporate IT departments within a decade. IT staff will either move to "cloud utilities" like Google or into business line units where they will provide design and architecture services.

Also, look for the rise of government regulation over software engineering as the industry matures. It's going to become as hard for two guys in a garage without government certification to create the next HP as it currently is for two guys in a garage without government certification to pioneer new advances in heart surgery.

This is a pretty bad list. I’m guessing the author isn’t really technical (or they could just have been living in a cave).

For example, Apple has been increasing in popularity for several years now. They did nothing significant of note in 2008 - they just continued what they’ve been doing. Additionally, the iPhone is NOT a gaming device and never will be. It might serve to run some novelty-type games, but the touch screen is not conducive to any real sort of gaming. (The iPhone’s real advantages come in many other facets of the device.)

The launch of Google Chrome was also pretty much a non-issue.
