Led by the radical Islamic countries, the United Nations is doing its best to save Hamas. Even with the support of Israel and the split amongst Arab nations who hate Israel but don't want an Iranian puppet to dominate the region, time is running out for Israel to complete its mission.

Israel cannot afford another "tie" like the War in Lebanon, with its loss in deterrence AND international credibility. As troops mass on the Gaza border, the next 24 hours may "make or break" the effort to eradicate the Hamas missiles. If Israel is going to enter Gaza three is no more time to "consider" its NOW or NEVER, because in 20 days US support for Israel will dry most probably dry UP

This action was never going to be an all out offensive. Israel never intended to commit ground troops to it, retake Gaza, or "defeat" Hamas.

It seems (at least to me) the only initiative was to degrade Hamas' stock visable stockpile of rockets, destroy known tunnels, and inflict damage to the current leadership in order to extract some sort of truce. The whole world is screaming for a "truce" now- after the Israeli barrage, not after the Hamastan rocketeers and their thousands of missiles.

Olmert and Livni don't want military casualties and know that Obama is a liability. Things should slow down or stop pretty soon now. Expect some sort of proclamation by Hamas and Israel soon.

I assumed this was only a necessary prelude to an attack on Iran.

It seemed so dangerous to have Hamas sitting there attacking you from within while Israel attacks Iran. JMHO

And if Israel does not reclaim Gaza it will be a big mistake. Just wiping Hamas out and leave Gaza under the control of the Palestines would just do the same as Lebanon. Hamas is rebuilding in Lebanon.

Israel's stated objective is to put an end to the rocket attacks. Legitimate objective, at which they dare not fail, but they can't do it with airstrikes alone. Time to move in.

Mark my works, the Israelis are going to turn Gaza over to Fatah. They just need to significantly degrade Fatah’s ability to fight Fatah, the tanks on the border are just for limited action, and to keep the Hamas fighters contained inside Gaza.

I believe that Iran is just waiting for Obama to take office. They want to see what will be done in Iraq and Afghanistan, before they make any moves.

They could very well supply Hammas with a nuke of some kind. Probably a short range tactical version, to hit Tel Aviv.

Obama will not aid Israel for any reason and will join the UN to force sanctions on Israel to drop all action against Hammas. Israel will turn inward when this happens and begin the fight on their own. Iran may be attacked after all. Especially if any serious attack on any Israeli city takes place.

The entire Middle East will become a war zone, in all probability.
