Old times there are not forgotten bump
Four of the last five presidents have been from the South. I’d say they’ve gotten their revenge for losing the rebellion many times over.
Welcome to the South rich yankees. We’ll take your money.
The South WILL rise again. hehehe
“Such policies created a region so poor and under-educated that FDR called the South the “nations number one economic problem” in 1938...”
This exact same thing is happening today. The liberals are trying to put us all into poverty so that they can have control over everything we do. Yea, FDR to the rescue. Look what he did to this country.

One fact is left out. By the 1880s the democrat party had regained control over most of the old south and by 1900 they had near total control that lasted into the 70s and 80s. Most of the excesses that followed the end of the war were put down by the end of reconstruction. The urban southern areas such as Atlanta grew and flourished but the policies of the ruling party (democrat) purposely kept the rural areas poor because they were easier to control that way. The KKK and the southern democrat machine needed to make sure that the black population was controlled and that the concepts of white supremacy and the confederacy were kept alive in the minds of southern whites. The idea was to keep them poor, dumb and working to make the democrat ruling class richer.

10 Things Southerners Don’t Understand About the North (#1: Why isn’t Ted Kennedy in prison?)
“....Very interesting article and it presents many unknown or forgotten facts....”
Unknown and forgotten by everyone, but Southerners with long family histories.
...and Yankees today wonder why some down here are still bitter....The South was kept in virtual serfdom for generations. That attitude is still alive and well, even among some FReepers.
THIS Yankee never heard that before ... and I am one of those that believes I was never told the truth about the (un)civil war.

There were, of course, other factors. The punitive Versailles Treaty after WWI was a demonstrable failure, and the Berlin Airlift helped the Western cause by turning the occupiers into defenders in the eyes of the German population.

The North plundered the South and took all of its riches and continue to this day to call us ignorant hillbillies. I got news for them. They may have taken everything away but its all coming back. The South has something they can’t take away. The people are a genteel people. They have strength and class. They are no longer dirt poor. Money goes a lot furthur here than up north. But mostly they have dignity. The North tried to take away that dignity and failed. You can wear a flour sack dress and eat nothing but beans but you can still have dignity and class. We don’t abort our babies. We love our babies, guns, and Jesus, as Rush would say. Living in the south is more like what America used to be. And as far as race relations go, we don’t have riots, etc, here. Our people, black and white, get along just fine.
It’s no wonder southerners hated yankees.
Thank you big government
Legally, the country was all back together by 1877. But a lot of us who grew up in the South and remember our history knew that the big-city Northern interests kept us down economically for quite a while after that because it was in their own self-interest to do so.
145 years later and they’re still looking down on us. All you need to do to know that is just look at how Southerners are portrayed in the mass media. White Southerners are almost always stupid rednecks, violent racists, or both, except for those enlightened few who have gotten edumacated up North and come back to spread peace and harmony and liberalism among the savage trailer-park masses.

I have been reading a book — the diary of Sarah Morgan — from the Civil War. She wrote about the Union coming in, looting and burning Baton Rouge. When one of her family’s slaves tried to stop some of the looting, saying her home belonged to a poor widow and her daughters, the soldiers made comments about them not being so poor and had some former slaves from the area come through and loot whatever they felt like.
