I think many are clueless. The command to feed the poor is for the church (and individual believers) not for the “people” or the “government”. Using someone elses money (through taxation) to make you feel compassionate is wrong on so many levels. The Good Samaritan didn’t tell the wounded man about some government program. He did what was needed on an individual level.
