Here is video from this morning of Sen. John McCain speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative just before returning to Washington, D.C. McCain told the crowd that the "whole future of the American Economy is in danger." As a result, McCain said he could not carry on a campaign while the real need for the nation is that he be in Washington helping to find a solution to the financial crisis. . . . . (see video at link)

You know the lack of outrage by the press at lawmakers is telling. They know whose balls are in the fire

It is Christmas in Washington, in more ways than one. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."

Something else that people should be aware of. Forclosing on all these properties is a great way for government to grab land. The state land around me is full of foundations of old farmhouses that were forclosed on during the depression.

Interestingly enough Michigan’s DEQ was approved for several million dollars to buy land with just a couple months back. It would be very interesting to see how many other states have done the same.

I personally admire the fact that John McCain is willing to take a stand and take the consequences. By suspending his campaign and declaring he will not continue until our country finds a solution that will work, a pledge that provides ample opportunity for Democratic criticism and lost campaign time, he is showing his determination to the people’s needs first.

Now, if he sticks with his promise even amidst Obama’s sarcastic but naive teleprompted remarks and Democratic attempts at undermining progress for the people in their reach for party gold, I’ll admire John McCain even more for his loyalty and for his steadfastness. Such decision making and such determination shows great character.

However, if he gives this a one day shot and the Democrats give him a lengthy run for his money, which we would all guess they might, if we find this to be just a one day affair at being noble, I, among others I’m sure, will be disappointed.

Please Senator McCain, stick to your word, no matter the cost, and I believe your exposed faithfulness and trustworthiness will be all the campaign you need for the majority of the American people!

Yep, sounds like a socialist’s wet-dream.
Sumpin’ else I wonder about—the FHA and VA mortgages. If the govt. buys these debts (`choses in action’?) what do they do when they are foreclosed? Do they join the US (taxpayers)as a defendant? They are `govt. guaranteed, right?
Then the suit on the deficiency judgment—who is garnished? The government guaranteed the loans, so are we (taxpayers) paying for the duty down the road to pay the foreclosure deficiency judgments on the real property we purchased?

The premise of the bail-out is spend more of our money (borrow it first) so we can get ourselves out of this hole. It’s the same logic that justifies the earmarks...we’re spending money to stimulate the local economy, generate jobs, blah, blah, blah.

No earmarks and no bail-out, period.

McCain wants several important modifications to the plan as it stands: greater accountability/oversight, taxpayer recovery of money put up, transparency in the implementation process for open scrutiny, NO EARMARKS!!, no ceo bonuses for those who are being helped.

He gave another clear, decisive speech. Very focused and determined.

This is the difference between someone who knows what's at stake and someone who parrots the latest political trend (read: Senator Obama). Voters will remember this on November 4, 2008.
