Top Ten Rock & Roll Bands?

Posted on 07/27/2008 3:26:41 PM PDT by Bobarian

Okay, FRiends. It's a lazy Sunday afternoon and I need a distraction from Obamamania. Anybody care to debate the top ten rock & roll bands?

Not necessarily personal favorites, but in terms of influence, endurance and popularity.

I think the top four, in no particular order, would have to include:

The Doors
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin

Everybody was new once. The n00b line is an old and tired one, usually used when someone doesn’t have anything creative or original to say. No different than Obama saying everyone who doesn’t vote for him is doing so because they’re racist. It’s the easy way out, no?

It would help to have criteria for rating them, like...

Songwriting
Musicianship
Longevity
Influence on other muscians
Pop culture signifigance

Score 1-10 in each catagory, then add the total.

Cream? Hmmm...I guess I can see that, but I'm more inclined to start a list of guitarists:

Eric Clapton
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimi Hendrix
Frank Zappa

U2 and Metallica (I didn’t like Metallica but they were influential) have to be considered.
