National service mandated by the state is what Europe had for centuries. It was called serfdom. For example, in France, citizens were required to perform public service building and repairing roads and other public projects for hundreds and thousands of hours a year. Serfdom wasn't eliminated in France until the French revolution, one of the "liberty" parts of that revolution. It was largely the American revolution which inspired this escape from serfdom. Indeed, the American revolution was all about escaping from the European model of servitude, with the American's insisting that even very moderate taxation without representation was a form of oppressive servitude. Incredibly, Barack Obama somehow believes that advocacy of a return to European style serfdom is a good way to celebrate the American Declaration of Independence from the oppression of English tyranny.
I especially liked this part of Obama's speech:
when I'm President, I will set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year. This means that by the time you graduate college, you'll have done 17 weeks of service. We'll reach this goal in several ways. At the middle and high school level, we'll make federal assistance conditional on school districts developing service programs, and give schools resources to offer new service opportunities.
Your children will be made serfs. But not well. The children of the rich and privileged like those of Barack and Michelle Obama who attend elite private schools will be exempt from the system of servitude Obama and the Lear Jet Left will construct for your children.

It isn’t the purpose of government to direct the efforts of citizens, it is the purpose of government to protect the right of a citizen to direct his own efforts as he sees fit.
I like the idea of citizens serving citizens. There is a name for it, when its voluntary: its called free enterprise. Thats what capitalism is, free citizens serving free citizens.
If you don’t want to charge for your efforts, thats your business. Lots of people do favors for one another all the time. Its as natural as getting up in the morning. Forcing someone to do you a favor, however, is violence against that person.
Theyll have to send me to jail or maybe a re-education camp before I let my kids become serfs or slaves of the state. Screw obama!
Exactly why the country has been greatly improved by the volunteer armed forces.
Will everyone have to work for free or just legal citizens?
Does this mean that prisoners can be forced into labor again?
People will readily submit to slavery in order to collect a scholarship. It is like Esau selling his blessing for a bowl of stew.
Any such public service would be un-constitutional. Government can compel you to perform some kind of service, but they have to pay you for it. Given how corrupt our federal courts are, I dont count on the court striking such law down..
If this ever becomes law, it’s time to start thinking of an exit strategy from this land...
Nanny State Ping.
I am not happy about John McCain being the nominee, but the alternative is far worse in my personal opinion.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
....And they better sell every vial they are given.
The local school district already has a community service requirement. 60 hours or no diploma.
In the past they have credited purely partisan activities such as participating in the demonstrations in favor of - but not against - amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Our Enemies Within
Politicians - Bureaucrats - Federal, State & Local
The Enemies Within Our Education system
Education Unions (the N.E.A.), School Administrators and Yes - Even Some Teachers
Oh, yes, the dem nominee is far, far worse. But, even with some of our stupid regulations and laws in this country, I still love this country (But why does it have to be a constrant struggle? LOL):

What kind of “community service”?
Why does delivering hot meals to crack houses come to mind?
Does “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” ring any bells.
Those engaged in forced service to the state should also wear armbands. I suggest a democrat donkey rather than the nazi cross.
Notice that Hussein is using Federal aid as a club to enforce this serfdom on local jurisdictions. Notice also that he wants to expand the Federal involvement with “faith-based” service activities. That was one of Bush’s most stupid mistakes. He opened the door to Federal regulation and control of one of the last remaining independent and private social programs: those run by churches. Obama will drive a tank through that door, using Federal control to advance the leftist agenda, whether it’s “gay rights,” pro-Muslim multiculturalism, etc. We will see huge grants to outfits like Jeremiah Wright’s church and Father Pfleger’s, and punishment of organizations like Focus on the Family. The remaining freedom of the church will be destroyed.
If college students have to perform service for the State, then the State should free the students from their excessive college loans.
It does for me! The rotten communist regime I grow up under, did the same to me and all my fellow students during my High school years. We were forced for at least 1 month of labor each year to government owned potato and corn fields , then we had to catch up with our study. Also, we were forced to do digging for the foundations of new hotels in the mountains/resort areas. Obama and alike people are dangerous for this country!!
Celebrate the 4-th of July, till you can!
