Simply, the sign above the Philippine Airlines and Japan Airlines banners in the color picture says San Francisco.

It's not HNL and it isn't John Rodgers A/P of 1960.

Simply, the sign above the Philippine Airlines and Japan Airlines banners in the color picture says San Francisco.

I thought I made that clear. That's an optical illusion. The San Francisco sign is not above the Philippine and Japan signs. It's a smaller ticket counter sign hanging from the pole on the left side of the Obama picture.

Take a closer look at the black and white terminal picture. Go to the link and click on the preview picture for the full screen image. You will see in that picture that the ticket counter sign on the pole says Los Angeles. The San Francisco sign is the same thing, the ticket counter sign on the pole, but the angle of the Obama shot makes it look like a large banner on the wall.

Get out your magnifing glass and you will see that above where it says PANAMERICAN, specifically above the ERIC there is a small banner on a pole and it says SAN FRANCISCO.

Also in the picture where it was thought to have said PHILLIPINES it obviously now shows it said PANAMERICAN.

I believe those banners have to do with baggage pick up for passengers in came on planes from the named cities.

Pocket calculators hadn't been invented yet BTW.
