Boeing protested. The GAO has until June 19 to review the contract selection. They'll most likely approve USAF's selection, What happens after that is anybody's guess. Howls from the Washington and Kansas congressional delegations, certainly. Political accusations between Obama and McCain, probably. when do we find out if the USAF are able to stick with the original decision to buy the European designed tanker ? Will true democracy and freedom of choice prevail or will we see a U turn of all that is supposed to be good in the USA.
I’ll repeat my prediction that the solution arrived at will be to split the order between the two companies, thus ensuring that the Air Force will pay more money for fewer tankers than they would have done with a single source contract.
The United States does not want or need AIRBUSST TANKERS!!
Dump the French Leakers and BUY AMERICAN! VIVA BOEING!!
BUY U.S. BOEING TANKERS with U.S. Dollars!
AIRBUS is GOING BUST ANYWAY! They are in Bankruptcy NOW..:-)
Wouldn’t it be funny if the gubmint decides to lease the tankers from Boeing instead? I wouldn’t be surprised.
There are laws requiring the government to purchase through the GSA, even if it means waiting months for a part that could be bought the same day from Home Depot. The government has to give minority businesses an edge on contracts. We had to send all of our document copying from Florida to a small minority-owned business in Maryland to have it done. If there were mistakes in the job we had to send it back for corrections. It took us months to get something printed that we could have done locally in a couple of days.
All of these laws were passed by Congress and none of them were to improve efficiency, save tax dollars, or improve the defense of the US. The AF followed the laws as written by Congress and now Congressmen are mad at the military for the result.
When Boeing decides to quit bribing Air Force officials and using its Congressional influence to pry contracts out of the Air Force, then they deserve the contract.
When is France the enemy?
The plane will be built in America, by Americans. It’s an older airframe.
Oh! Boulderdash.....
and “ When has France been Our Enemy?”
My Gosh, did you just wake up from a Sleepy Hollow 20 year Trance?
Did you ever try to do any business in France “without greasing the souffle pan first?”
BOEING TANKERS ARE THE BEST!
If AIRBUSST IS SO WONDERFUL? WHY ARE THEY BANKRUPT AND NOTED FOR UNDER THE TABLE “DEALS”(gosh, thats called bribery in USA, but business as usual in Gay Parieeeee.:-)
What does "democracy and freedom of choice" have to do with the awarding of a tanker contract?
How’s that 787 coming along?
If the GAO confirms the decision to buy from the NG/EADS team, Boeing may accept the result or they may pursue litigation. The litigation course would take a year or more and would delay the delivery of the tankers to the Air Force by that much. The government would probably take a very dim view of that approach. If the litigation was unsuccessful, it would probably be regarded as a negative in the evaluation of Boeing proposals for years to come (even though it is not supposed to be considered). In some matters, the government has a long memory.
If McCain wins they just might do that. If memory serves he as a big proponent of that turkey of a deal.
Just Fine! and Considering it’s Revolutionary Design, No one else could do a Better Job on Creating the 787 than BOING! Why do you ask?
I think that litigation won’t delay things, because the work will start. There’s no chance a judge is going to grant an injunction.
McCain is the one who STOPPED that deal. That's why the Democrats are using the EADS award against him, by claiming he stopped work going to a U.S. company to give it to foreigners.
You are correct. McCain asked for an investigation into the leasing deal. The subsequent investigation brought out the Darleen Druyun scandal and the cancellation of that deal. McCain was the good guy, for once.
I stand corrected. McCain was almost alone in his opposition to the deal. But he did stop it.
Assumes facts not in evidence
The Boeing Tanker was vapourware. Boeing was promising to think about designing it if they got the contract. At best they Had a scheme on the back of an envelope
Meanwhile EADS had a completed design in the air
And Airbus rolls out first A330 for USAF KC-X programme
Airbus has completed assembly of the A330-200 earmarked to become the first development KC-30 for the US Air Force if Northrop Grumman wins the KC-X tanker competition, ....All the US had to do was say the word and Northrop-Grumman would add the tanker bits and give it a coat of paint.Arguing that Boeing is proposing changes to the KC-767 that will make it different to the commercial 767, Northrop says its decision to base the KC-30 on a standard A330-200 provides a “low-risk, time-certain approach” to KC-X.
While Northrop Grumman/EADS was building aircraft, Boeing was having its PR people print brochures.
And there's reason Boeing hasn't sold a tanker in 6 years
Sorry. Boeing are the bribers of record.
Why do I doubt your word. Could it be because of the small detail that Boeing has NOT been prosecuted for Bribery? Yes, just a small detail. May GOD Bless Boeing and Bless Our United States.
You are more than welcome to fly AIRBUSST. I’ll make sure my flights are in Boeing Hardware.:-P
But I will give you that the French can do somethings right. I love their croissants and crepes! Their planes stink.
