I do not know if this article suit to be posted here, but I just want to speak something.
Today when I went to NYT and an review attracted my attention, title "fed up with peace" (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/18/opinion/18kristof.html). This article frightens me. There it covered a monk who claimed that he( Dalai Lama) has been too peaceful over the China, and they should take some actions more violent, especially when he is gone. It depicts that this impatience seems widespread among young Tibetans , and remarks that the Dalai Lama should return Tibet as a spiritual leader and own more rights. Most important, it also observes, that China government should stop sending Han migrants to all Tibetan areas, to preserve their Tibetan character.
After finished reading I think there is a need to leave comments. To prevent wasting the time, I just want to ask the author one question, that is: You call for more rights to Tibet, but did you ever ask yourself such a question that to whom is this freedom belong? To judge the affairs in Tibet one must consult the history instead of vainly murmuring about the present. Don't you think it's weird that in the process of "free Tibet" movement only several monks and oversea persons stand up, instead of masses of Tibetans? After informed yourself with the past history of serfs in Tibet when ruled by these Lamas, could you tell me to whom is this freedom would be given if the Tibet is once again ruled by monks?
About the last remark of migrants, it makes me a little confused that as I can remember American always support culture diversity and communication. One thought in your head and another in mine, but if we make changes there go more than two. The same, the collision of culture will result more thoughts and help both the Han people and Tibetans, isn't it? Does it benifit the Tibetans more by isolating them?
Perhaps you don't realize there are many types of serfdom and Tibetans are in fact still serfs because you donot control your own destiny. China controls the destiny of Tibet. No it's not. Serfdom isn't just a bad word. It's a very specific type of feudal social class. Tibetans are *not* serfs. They're suffering under a totalitarian government yes, but they're not, for instance, tied to their land.Whatever Tibet wishes to become it may only do what China allows.
That is sefdom.
The economic miracles that yall tout so much are the direct result of American free trade policies. Without American companies giving you the technology, capital, and markets, China would be no better than N Korea in terms of economic development.Don't underestimate Mao or Deng. Nobody will ever mistake either of them for great humanitarians but both of them had huge effects on bringing China into the modern age. Mao, when he wasn't starving, purging or coming up with some cockamamie scheme actually *did* bring China into the 20th century. It's quite informative to read the stories of true believers who were purged in the great leap forward and cultural revolution. They hate Mao but they also admire him for unifying China and making it a world power again. You should thank Pres. Nixon and BJ Clinton (and not syphilitic Mao or Deng) for your recent economic and military advances.
If America boycotts WalMart (unfortunately, not possible for all in this economy) and their PLA-manufactured goods, youll know the real power of what the US markets mean to you and your continued success.
Arrogance, ChiCom, is a very ironic trait - especially when it is exhibited by ignoramuses like you and your fellow ChiCom travelers.
dishonestly not counting Khams and Qinghai, regions almost solely inhabited by Tibetans prior to the Chinese invasion of the ‘50s, badguy2200 can tell the lie that there were only 1 million Tibetans in the ‘50s. But we can clearly see that there were at least 6 million. These people would not identify themselves as anything but Tibetan. Check the sources at my link and everyone can see that these figures actually came from the Chinese government. That should make it clear to all that badguy2200 is not misinforming us because he has been lied to by the CCP. This information is available to him but he lies anyway because his intention is to intentionally misinform the rest of the world. That is CCP policy.
2,the “Greater TIbet” only existed during 7th-12 th century.
Before 7th century, Han-Chinese had settled in Qinhai for over 700 years. When Han-Chiense started to settle in Qinhai,Rome was still fighting against Carthage.Where was Tibet at that time?
After 12th century,”Great Tibet” collasped. Mongols controlled Qinhai for over 500 years.then Manchus and Han-Chinese controlled it. During Qing dynastry, Kham and Qinhai both were out of the control of Dalai.
3,those who lives in Kham and Qinahai is far more than Tibetan.
there are 6 million Yi,7 million and a lot of Qiang,Mongol..etc. all those ethnics live there for hunderds of years at least.some of them even live ther longer than Tibetan.
Even not counting millions of Han,how can you let 6 million Yi accept the rule of 5 million Tibetan?
would you like to make another Balkan?
Its also a metaphor for an underclass that doesn't have control of their political destiny. See Hayek's "Road to Serfdom", a classic study which addresses the problem of freedom in a planned society.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
hi guys, there will be more and more chinse trolls here.
Chinese 250 million netzens will not always be silent.
even only a few of them can write/read english, there will be still dozens of million chinese trolls like me.
you must get accutomed to it.you must get accustomed to a world full of CHinese voice.
I think Jim himself might be interested in finding out exactly how many Chinese Commmunist trolls have been infitrating his board lately while he's been away dealing with his illness and surgery.
How did I get it? From Chinese government census figures as I said. It is pretty clear to anyone who can read.
I have counted well over 100 sign ups of Chinese nationals since the earthquake. Several, such as the ones on this thread, quickly turned from thanking “us” for our sympathy and sharing what they know of the tragedy to shilling for the PRC. More than one has threatened to flood us with more. For the time being it seems to be of no concern to the moderators. I guess we can go through the useless exercise of endlessly rebutting them or ignore them and let them post what they want. There seem to be quite a few FReepers, unfamiliar with the phenomenon of ChiCom trolls and their scripted propaganda on FR, who are being lulled by sympathy into accepting them as a new resource of communication with Chinese citizens.
It looks like not all of your countrymen buy into the BS.
Actually, many of them have a warm heart and they do good deeds in daily life but they are cheated by CCP. I think they need to learn more truth but not the lies told by CCP.
Idiot Compassion A good article applying the principle to political views.
The idea that Chinese people are anything other than human beings like any other people never entered my mind.
Thanks for your input and welcome to FR. Stay safe, bro.
I agree with you.One may become a devil if he has a wrong belief(The CCP is against humanity).
However, thanks to Internet, the propaganda of CCP doesn't work as effective as before because we have more chance to know the truth from BBC, CNN, and so forth, though the GFW really cause some troubles when we visit a foreign website(For example we cannot visit Wiki).
Anyway, I believe the justice will defeat the evil someday, right?
That explains why many of my links are ignored. Things are changing. They always do. I believe there will always be evil in the world but people will always have a desire to overcome it. I also think the future is made by the choices we make today. The CCP has allowed more communication with the rest of the world. The result will be that Chinese learn more about the world and create more relationships outside China. The ability of a small group to control a large group is always limited.
The CCP allowed us because they could not control the Internet as they control the media. However, they issued several policies to strengthen their control of the Internet.
Recently, a brave journalist reported the government bureaucracies have embezzled the tents for the victims who suffer from earthquake. The news was deleted soon.

My posts which oppose the CCP in chinese BBS have been deleted.
I will never believe that there is freedom under the CCPs rule. What are they doing? They strengthen their domination, gain money from our taxpayers for their own sake.
Well, it is good to love our country, but it doesn’t mean that we should protect the CCP.
Most of them are killers.
Many people have “good hearts” but believe things that are completely wrong. Thinking that they are doing good they act on what they believe instead of the good in their hearts and do great harm. Compassion without wisdom is idiot compassion and the cause of more suffering than acts that are intended to harm.

well, I agree that internet indeed is a window for people all over the world to commmunicate...
But I don’t agree your ideas about CHina.
Not many Chinese believe the politcal news from offical throats like CCTV...most CHinese people also dbout CNN and other western medias, espeicall after western medias’ distorted the 3.14 riots in Lhasa.
Chinese people now distrust all “formal medias”. what they trust is internet community or message sent by their relative or firends.

the news is being discuessed hotly on Tianya.
You have proved yourself to be dishonest so I really don’t care what you say.
