I’ve seen cantelope at a farmer’s market here for a buck each. I don’t usually eat cantelope, however. I sort of got hooked years ago on Indiana Melons which is a cross between cantelope and honeydew melons. Just cantelope doesn’t do it for me.
The farmers market in my current neighborhood is a great source for heirloom tomatoes, zucchini and (my fave) white eggplant in season. Cheap too, compared to Wegmans, A&P, etc.
Huh? I've been a Hoosier all of my life and, while Indiana enjoys a reputation for superior melon farming, I have never heard of an "Indiana Melon" that is cross between cantelope and honeydew. It sounds tasty, though.
