A strange thing happened today. I agreed with Nancy Pelosi and disagreed with George Bush. Today Nancy Pelosi said this "If freedom loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China and the Chinese in Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak out on human rights," It is a sad day when a Liberal Democrat does the right thing while conservatives sit on the sideline and watch
hmm. I just read that again and it didn’t come out the way I intended. I guess I should say Republicans, not conservatives. We all know where the conservatives stand. Some people tend to forget that there is a difference between Republican and conservative.
The President is making it clear that as far as he’s concerned the Olympics are separate and apart from the situation in Tibet. In other words he’s not going to pull a Jimmy Carter ... i.e., the Moscow Olympics.
One needs morals to have moral authority, and the West has soundly rejected its own moral origins.
I have the same opinion of what Pelosi said. I never thought China should have ‘most favored nation’ statis. The Chinese have an eye on more global control.
The trouble with Pelosi saying anything is you have to think what she's getting out of it. This is good play for her. If it wasn't she wouldn't be saying a thing.
Bush on the other hand is just lost IMHO. If he can't take the right stand on Tibet or Kosovo he's just gone down the rabbit hole.
Pelosi’s concern for human rights is both selective and calculated. She’s just making hay for the Dems and trying to make Bush look bad, as always.
The President could condemn China’s genocide in Tibet and elsewhere to make himself look good. Instead, his administration removes China from the list of human rights violators
When it comes to China’s genocide - like father, like son.
Glad you clarified it.
America does not have the will (read China holds a lot of US debt) to confront Beijing on this right now.
Who decides which morals and moral authority are correct?
Every individual has to make that decision for himself... however, the prosperity of nations which had adhered to the moral code of the Bible convinces me that the Ten Commandments are a basis for true-moral behavior.
To get into this topic in more depth we need to define the word “moral”. My understanding is that the word means “that which contributes to the survival and prosperity of human beings”.
I guess we also would have to pick which period and place in history, and a length of prosperous time, to be really accurate. Thanks
Sadly, I have to agree. I don’t think Pelosi’s motives are genuine, but the truth is the truth.
I almost have to question whether Bush is really a Christian at this point.
Why does she speak out for Tibet and not Iraq, or the US?
Viewed beyond her support of a good cause; how is this the role of a House Speaker? Is she speaking for the House with some resolution in hand? Is she going to recommend a resolution to the House? If she does I will pick my jaw up off the floor and give her her due.
Any Republicans out there?...:
I heard her say it on a broadcast but what I heard is she was demanding the nations of the world condemn China but WE have no credibility on the issue. I must be suffering from RAT derangement syndrome. I even commented to my wife who heard it also. Good grief what has become of me!!!!
