I can handle a Mitt/Fred ticket. I think Ron Paul needs to be an influence in certain areas, but he needs to just slip away to be a factor in the background.

While it bothers me that Fred is out, I don’t think he’s going to be a non-factor. Just my $0.02 worth, your mileage may vary.

Honestly, even though an ideal candidate for the position would be in his/her early to mid 50’s, the next President (assuming the GOP wins) could do a lot worse than to make Fred Thompson his first USSC appointment.

I don't find it surprising that Fred dropped out, only disappointing in the sense that after Duncan Hunter, he was the most conservative. Unfortunately, neither of them was able to raise enough interest or $ to run a campaign, either indicating that there was some fault in them as candidates or there aren't enough conservatives to generate interest in having a conservative nominee. Either way, it does leave us without a candidate and I commiserate with you over that, but it seems like it was a long time coming as it was apparent that neither was "catching on."

You know, I've been out of the loop for a while, and haven't really been keeping up on details, although I've seen several thread titles relating to alleged racist and generally looney comments from Paul... I always liked him in the past.

That said, he won't get the nomination, so it's all pretty moot anyway.

He ran a campaign seldom exceeded in its ineptitude. I wanted him in, but by the time he opted out, I expected it.

All this talk about just jumping over to Romney makes me feel almost unfaithful. I just am not ready to "go there".

For now, I will lay low and eat lots of chocolate.

I wish alan keyes was given a chance...and rather than vote for 3rd party (aka perot days)....I’m voting for him for the primary. I am wondering if those who are left are tough enough to stomach arguing against clinton/obama during the campaign. I think Fred would have had an iron stomach and then some. He would have been able to beat them in the debates.
