Missouri: Police Stake Out Brett Darrow Home

Saint Louis, Missouri police stake out the home of young motorist whose video of an out-of-control police officer garnered international attention.

A young Saint Louis, Missouri motorist faces trouble with local police upset at the national attention his September 7 video of an out-of-control officer has drawn to ongoing problems within area law enforcement agencies.

On Sunday, Brett Darrow filmed a Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department cruiser staking out his home.

"It was the first time I've seen it," Darrow told TheNewspaper. "But my neighbor said he's seen a lot of police down our dead end street since all of this happened."

When Darrow walked outside to his 1997 Nissan Maxima, he noticed two officers sitting in a marked squad car, numbered 65. There is little question as to why the officers were there.

"As I got into the car, he started to pull up the street and he and his partner just stared me down," Darrow explained.

The patrol car drove away as Darrow started his car and followed. Because his camera had been set to capture night-time footage, the first 45 seconds of the video is obscured. It does, however, capture the police car making questionable turning maneuvers in order to get away.

Members of the police community are on the record regarding their desire to stake out Darrow's home and harass the twenty-year-old. In late June, users of St. Louis CopTalk, an unofficial forum for Saint Louis area law enforcement, posted Darrow's home address along with messages containing apparent death threats in retaliation for the young motorist's taping of a DUI roadblock in November and a traffic ticket in June. One CopTalk user repeating the address wrote, "Every copper, City and County, should etch this little punks [sic] name in their [sic] memory. Brett Darrow, [address deleted], city of St. Louis." (View screen capture of post)

This month, however, scandals within the Saint Louis Police Department which otherwise would have been a local story, gathered national attention and fueled additional resentment. Some $40,000 in cash turned up "missing" from the police evidence room on September 17. The city of St. George was forced to fire Sergeant James Kuehnlein for his threat to "come up with reasons" to "lock up" Darrow.

An investigation into whether Kuehnlein's actions merit criminal charges is under way. Darrow met on Monday with a Saint Louis County Police Department detective.

"I quickly learned that this was about finding something I did wrong and not the officer," Darrow said.

Despite the official harassment, Darrow has been comforted by an unexpected level of support from the general public. Motorists who recognized him from various television interviews have stopped to thank him or give him the "thumbs up." A judge also dropped charges from the June traffic stop after a Saint Louis police officer failed to show up at a trial where Darrow had been prepared to defend himself with video evidence.

I agree. Brett needs to take the heat off, and blend back into the herd. Those Missouri cops are dangerous. They have made threats.

Face it Brett isn't gonna go down in the history books as the next Crispus Attucks. I'm pretty shure he doesn't want to either.

The cops started it. It’s up to them to call it off. They work for us, not the other way ‘round.

Sorry bro.........:o(

I as stated haven’t dealt with either AR-10 or the DPMS flavors. I am a die hard M1A fan for that is what I carried in EOD and as Deputy after retirement.....

I do have a bunch of bushmaster receivers that I have played with and other uppers on like the .50 Beowulf and 6.5 Grendel from Alexander Arms. Alexander Arms products are grief free thus far for me ...... as well as bushmaster products.

That’s OK, I very much appreciate, and respect, your knowledge. Glad I asked, I don’t want to put down big money for a dud. I’ve been there before.

Well, which M1A do you have? That Super Match with the McMillan USMC stock looks pretty nice to me. It’s hard to beat the M1A. If they had a better scope mount I might get another.

I have a stock NIB national match, a SOCOM and a TRW receiver built up for me when I was active duty.......the TRW M1A is in a McBros super-match configuration. It is my favorite yet the little SOCOM is a jewel in the rough per se....... Great 3 gun match rig.

The NIB National Match is my truck gun. It has the recently acquired birthday gift Leupold Mk4-M3 10x40 LR/T, that my little brother gave me, mounted on it now along with a Harris bi-pod.

Thanks for all your help. I’ve now also discovered that I’ll need a truck to go along with the gun. ;-)

I’m gonna take another peek at that SOCOM.

Very, very nice. Thanks for the links. I suppose that answers my question about a reliable scope mount.

I have QD Lever mounts ....the Aimpoint stays minute of torso out too 300 meters even after repeated install and removal . The AN PVS-14 just brightens the possibilities.......

I want to get an ACOG w/ the Docter halo option but those are pretty much all en-route to current theater of operations ......wait is something next to my expected lifespan er something to that effect..........:o)

1. Is that what you would do now if you were in Brett's shoes?

2. If so, can you think of any reason why you should not be considered a craven coward?

Since we’re chatting, and I’m having a great time, I’m thinking also of sending my 1903 Springfield off to have it tuned up.

I see there’s a fella in Texas (National Match Armory) that gets them into tip-top shape. Miltech also has armorer services. I think they both have a trade-in program. I have an ‘03, I would prefer the sights of the ‘03A3.

Ken I was just trying to give a bit of advice to someone in a situation that is spiraling.

1. Yes

2. Brett started it by speaking to the LE like an ACLU lawyer.(Granted they immediately became the keystone kops.) He can end it just as easily.

3.They have guns. Lots of them. They are awake 24/7. They have the leuuuu on their side.

4. Think what you will, call all the names you want. It's not YOU that is facing such horrendous danger over such a trivial matter.

BTW why are you dodging my question from post #97?

With all due respect, how will joining hands to sing Kumbaya and do the Rodney King "Can't we all get along" dance resolve this?

This Police Department apparently has NO CALEA Standards- officers have access to their own dashcam tapes- and one officer has been caught threatening to manufacture charges during a routine (and insignificant) investigation.

Name a single court case where the Defense Attorney will not use these two facts as well as others to create reasonable doubt for his client whether the charge is speeding or homicide.

As for lawsuits, everyone who has ever been convicted by this Police Department now has grounds for review and dismissal of their case!!

If the DA had half a brain he would be reviewing charges against the entire Department from the Chief on down.

It is called checks and balances, Brett Darrow was both the check and the balance against systemic official corruption.

That is a very Conservative, very Republican, very American, very Constitutional view of the world regardless of how he votes.

Best regards,

Wont do Brett a bit of good if they give him a ride to Ft Marcy Park though.

Brett needs to make peace, and find better interests to pursue.
