ST. GEORGE — A police officer who was recorded berating a motorist earlier this month has lost his job.

The board of aldermen voted 5-0, with one member absent, to fire Sgt. James Kuehnlein on Monday. The vote was cast in a session closed to the public and wasn't announced until Wednesday, when a notice was posted at the City Hall of this tiny south St. Louis County community.

In a video that got wide viewership on the Internet, Kuehnlein taunts and threatens motorist Brett Darrow, 20, sometimes shouting and using profanity, after questioning him in a commuter lot near Interstate 55. Darrow posted the footage of the Sept. 7 incident on the web.

"Both the kitchen window and the bedroom window looked down on that lot."

I'll tell you what. I'll concede that you used to live in the 5th house on Mullally Dr in St. Louis, MO. Furthermore, I'll concede that both the kitchen window and the bedroom window looked down on that lot.

No mas, no mas.

Now, is is possible (without the sarcasm this time) that the cop was telling the truth about the recent rash of break-in of cars after midnight in that lot? If you think he's lying, is it only because of your personal experience at that address, or do you have something somehow associated with the real world? Like proof of no filed police reports?

You say this and it's OK

Of course it's OK. No crime committed. If citizens want to wire their vehicles for audio video, so what?

Is this not a free country?

Fact is, is he did not drag the officer over to him, he was just ready for it. Another fact is, is this LEO shot off his mouth, saying things he shouldn't have, and no doubt he regrets it now.

Again, too bad the LEO thought this was just some dummy he could talk s*** to. He loses big.

As a matter of fact, I'd like to see all government offices wired, audio and video, and outside of national security issues, no more closed door meetings of those in power.

The people are suppose to keep checks and balances of those in power. They've become corrupt. They can't be trusted. They prove that over and over, just like in this case.

OK. Try this one. Why did he choose that moment to start recording? By the time the cop comes over, the recording is already at 1:07.

Geez. Almost like he knew something was going to happen, huh?

But wait. Answering that would require you to think! Can you do that? Are you capable? Ooooh. Too risky. Hitting abuse would be easier.

Why not ask Darrow rather than just throw wild accusations around? If I recall correctly, on a previous thread, he says that the camera is always on.

He didn't post whatever happened in his car for the time before 1:07 because it wasn't relevant. I'm sure people want to watch someone drive around for half an hour doing nothing just to satisfiy your idiotic claims.

I'm constantly amazed at how far you will reach to defend a jackboot.

Personal experience and common sense

The lot is very visible

Close to a dozen houses can easily see it (before looking at Google Earth I thought the number was a bit less)

It is visible from Reavis Barracks Rd.

It is visible from the 55 freeway.

Spokane Rd (which has the actual entrance to the lot) is very poor. It is impossible to drive fast on it, and the entrance is far enough down the road to dissuade someone from viewing that lot as a good target with hopes of getting away.

Spokane dead ends on the other side, so there is only one way out. Not the best option if you’re a thief.

Much easier to go to a shopping mall or office building and bust out windows and grab things.

The cop was obviously full of it.

Or, he's driving around, listening to his scanner, and he hears that a cop is in a parking lot five minutes from his house (worst case, car is impounded, he can walk home).

He circle the block, sees the cop, mutters "Here we go" and starts recording.

Got to agree with zeugma here. He probably only posted the relevant part as no one wants to watch him drive around before getting to the main point.

He probably has several hours of driving recorded and if you ask him really nice he might just stream some to you.

The cop is an obvious CRIMINAL. Wearing a badge neither makes you a good guy or bad guy, it still comes down to the person. We generally assume that police have been properly screened and are the good guys, this video points out the naivety of that belief.

The sooner bad cops are removed from the force the sooner we can begin to respect police again.

Go to post #8. He used his turn signal only six seconds after he started recording. He knew something was going to happen because he was going to cause it to happen.

"When you turned in, you failed to use your turn signal, your right turn signal [Turn signal was used, see video at 0:06]."

i said trust, not believe. my point is that in dangerous situations, i would rather have the cop i dislike at my side than a non-police officer. that's all.

nothing to do with protecting the constitution, as you put it. let's be real here. on any given tour, the less i deal with law-abiding citizens the better. it means they don't need me.

Interesting theory. Especially since the very person involved told you differently, and the Chief of Police confirmed his version of events. Yet somehow you can sit in front of a keyboard and claim to know better than the people on the ground.

You remind me of the liberals who second guess our troops half a world away, because they feel the need to make events fit their predispositions.

"Since he’s registered, don’t you think you ought to follow protocol, and include him in your replies if you’re going to make accusations about him?"

Well, that would be every post. Other aren't doing that. Why are you picking on me?

Just remember folks it is not against the law to be a smart ass, and if I am not mistaken that town does not have a curfew for adults.

Have you considered using something like a Verizon or Sprint AirCard to stream video to an actual secure location. Maybe use a tethered cell phone to do so.

Looks like a fun project and I’d love to help work on it with you if you like.

do me a favor and shut it. i’ll take my commendations, ZERO substantiated civilian complaints, many home-made thank you cards, the respect of my fellow cops and bosses, and my stellar arrest record over your word any day of the week and twice on sunday.

"The poster just spelled out what you’ve been saying this whole time."

Hmmmm. Not even close. But I'll give him the opportunity to confirm or deny that.

I'm sure you wouldn't want me to request his suspension from the forum based on your assertions, would you?

"are now personal attacks on a registered member."

Oh. Oh. And what abut the garbage in post #357?

"Robert Paulson who believes having a few bad cops is ok ... He thinks it's ok for cops to destroy tapes that make them look bad ... He believes it is not ok for everyone else to tape or record cops because that could threaten the careers and pensions of the bad ones."

Some registered members are more equal than others? Where's the outrage?

Try re-reading what I typed.

He merely restated everything that you’ve been saying.
Paraphrasing is hardly abuse of any type. The only abuse on this thread has been from you, and none of us want you to leave as you provide comedy relief.

Thanks for including the paraphase in post 397, I was a little too lazy to look it up myself.
