Tom Lehrer, in his satirical song "The Folk Song Army," has the telling line, "If you wanna end war 'n' things, you gotta sing loud."

It also had the verse:

"Remember the war against Franco?
That's the place where all of us belongs.
He may have won all the battles;
But we had all the good songs."

The bottom line is quite simple. The people who participated in Earth Live (or whatever do-gooder concert) are exactly like the people who participate in DU. They have NO SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE, whatsoever.

Each and every one of them would run screaming into the night if they were ever to receive Robert Burn's gift: "Ah, what gift the gods would gie us / To see ourselves as others see us." They are pathetic in their ignorance, and aggressive in defense of that ignorance. Bad combination, that.

Tom Lehrer, in his satirical song. . . .

Tom Lehrer is one of the three parodists--along with Allan Sherman and Stan Freberg--who most influenced me.
