Does anyone have any information on the format change at 101.1 FM The Source in Birmingham, Al. I called and asked if they were changing formats and I was told no coment. There is nothing on their website about this. I received an e-mail from a friend stating that they were changing to oldies rock and roll. WTF!!! For as long as I have been listning to this station it has been GOD AND COUNTRY as their motto. They have some great local host. I do not need another oldies station to listen to.
Anymore, it's gettin' kinda hard to tell the difference.
Got to love Mr. Charles Allen Head, Bess’mer, Alabama!
I guess we got a rude answer this morning - I went to turn on Lee Davis, and Christmas music is playing. I feel like Crawford Broadcasting has slapped us in the face. Just last Thursday, Matt Murphy said that the company was not abandoning the talk radio format - guess he got hosed as well.
No, but have some family in Montgomery.
I hope they are going to 92.5FM. I can not get that station in north Alabama, but I can listen on line.
They have Bennett, Boortz, Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, and Lavin. The local guy is pretty good too. I’ll miss the source on the drive home though. I would listen to them until “I’m a great American, Love me, I have a new book” Hannity would go off at 5 and I could get some real news/debate.
The Source really gave Alabama politicians a lashing. Hasn't the Source lost a lot of talent lately?
92.5 comes in strong from Huntsville here where I am. Dale Jackson from the Attack Machine is on there in the AM now.
I’m just really steamed about this. If there were some advanced warning, I wouldn’t be so mad. Instead, not a single word from Crawford Broadcasting whatsoever. That’s a good way to thank those of us who have been with them since day 1.
If you go to Matt’s and Lee’s websites, they are just asking us to keep watching for updates. I’ll keep checking the Birmingham News. If they do go to 92.5FM, they will have to power up a bit to get the coverage that they had with 101.1.
According to what I heard on 101.1 after a xmas song went off (which is stupid) was you can hear Matt Murphy on 92.5 starting July 10th from 3 to 6. I too believe it was wrong for Crawford to do what they did, but after they moved the station, I had a feeling they would. I think they got caught up in either money or prestige, but how they did it was wrong. I dont see the station doing well at all now and personally I hope it fails. I really wish Matt could get his own satelite show or syndicated show. I think he would be great for it.
Thanks for the heads up. Several people are now going to the Huntsville FM talk on 92.5 - Dale Jackson, formerly of the Source, is the new morning host up there.
To be honest, the Source hasn’t been the same since they cut Russ and Dee loose. Like ‘em or hate ‘em, they had a following, and several sponsors.
Coincidence!! I think not!! Russ and Dee gone just prior to Bush here with Riley and big words against Bush and Immigration. Now Bush here with Sessions and Immigration bill defeated and 101 talk radio gone. Think maybe Crawford FCC liscence in jeopardy, even if he did pay for it. I think so. So much for freedom of speech even if you do pay for it.
I listen to WVNN a lot. Dale Jackson went there when the was fired from 101.1 a few months ago. As far as 101.1, I was a big Matt Murphy fan and I called in all the time. The rest of the on air talent sucked.
The Source started downhill after Russ and Dee were fired. Half a day of Lee Davis was intolerable. The Attack Machine wasn’t much better (I doubt Dale will be at WVNN for very long). It’s a sad commentary on a station when Matt Murphy is considered the best talent.
101.1 could have succeeded if they had limited local shows to morning and afternoon with some nationally syndicated shows during the day. When given a choice most people who listen to talk radio would choose Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, or nearly anybody over Davis, Burt & Kurt, or Irwin.
Crawford just had no idea what talk radio is and basically blew it. To have had such power and opportunity and still fail will be a black mark on his record.
Goodbye powerful talk radio in Alabama.
Well hells bells I guess Don Crawford lost the “STAND”...LOL OR Dee Fine finally whipped his butt and kicked him off that stand..
I should have came here first. I just emailed Matt Murphy to find out what was going on. I doubt he can comment on it anyway. One of the last things I heard Matt talk about was the Free Masons. He said if they were so powerful then take him off the air. He challenged them to get him fired. Now everyone is gone. I call conspiracy. Seriously, I can’t pick up 95.5 but just a few spots here and there. What will we do without our talk radio and Charles Allen Head and the rst of the gang?
Charles Allen Head, Bessemer.....
He’s got nowhere to vent now? He’s probably “mobilatin’ some legislation to get his station motivatin’” again.
:)
Damn shame about the station. I hated it when the Fines go the axe a while back.
And why is Mancow no longer on?
Tell me the truth. have you EVER heard a bigger fool than Charles Allen Head, Bessemer?? I mean, ever? About anything?
Even “an old fool in love” can’t touch him.
Try 105.5 or 105.9 for the Steve and Leah show.
