It is very important to remember that unlike Black Americans, bigotry against Mexican Americans is still not being fully addressed.
Amnesty should continue to be part of our approach when attempting to solve our immigration problems with Mexico. The contributions hard-working Mexican Americans make to our society easily wipe out any so-called "free benefits" legal or non-legal immigrants may obtain through local, state, and federal programs.
Unlike some other Americans, many Mexican Americans are good people who possess a deep faith in Almighty God. Therefore they deserve to be treated with compassion & respect. In addition, we should double or triple the number of immigrants allowed on an annual basis with our friends from Mexico.
We must not forget that it is only with great difficulty & through hard work at low-paying jobs few other Americans want that many Mexicans eventually become citizens of the United States. It truly a blessing that so many Mexicans seek the opportunities the USA offers, & we should be honored to receive them in greater numbers into our country.
A large portion of the Irish came into "this house" in the 1840's. They left behind a famine. They didn't want to come here, they had to. Many of them stowed away on boats because they couldn't pay the price to get here(yes illegally), lied about their names and ages to get better jobs. Lied about what year they arrived so they wouldn't have to wait in line so long for citizenship. Lived ten people to a house in the inner cities and took the jobs from the British/American settlers.
So if any of us have Irish in our line should we all be deported because we are anchor babies of people who broke the law to bring us here for a better life...illegally?
I want the flow to stop as much as the next person but I think that deporting all the ones that are here is like giving a death sentence to a petty thief. It's over the top.
See post 101.
Let them be good people....in Mexico.
Only if they are going to sit on their fat butts and not give back or contribute to the common good. That's really not a common attribute of their culture is it?
Don't know. I do know that they have invaded the U.S. and ignored sovereignty and the laws of the land. Again, violating the Tenth Commandment.
Catholics should be the last people promoting the immigration and retention of illegal Mexicans and other Latins.
The absolute worst thing we can do is to bring in poor Mexicans to be exploited by big business. It destroys the extended Mexican family, decimates Mexico and overburdens the lower and middle class American at the present time.
It offends JPII’s teaching that the first and most long lasting approach is to develop the sending countries because people have a right not to have to emigrate.
The Mexican people have a right to live in dignity in their own country, with their own beautiful heritage and to reap the fruits of their own labor.
It is pure arrogance to think that coming to America is a step up for Mexicans. It is not. Mexican families put our broken family structures to shame.

When the Irish and others came here, it did not threaten to destroy our language and culture. They did not march in the streets claiming we stole their land. They were not 25% of the prison population. There was no MS13 gang murdering Americans. They were not sucking taxpayers dry and causing emergency rooms to be shut down. Your analogy is interesting but to compare the two and the time frames is simply foolish. We are in a genuine crisis that threatens to destroy this nation.
Please say this is a joke. A bit of tongue in cheek.
Well, there are good people from many countries all over the world, but they generally don’t break our laws and invade our country.
Perhaps the same reason that 17th century protestants encouraged each other to flee to the new world, rather than staying and fighting to reform England? Perhaps the same reason that 19th century Irish set out for America rather than working to make Ireland more prosperous? Perhaps the same reason that early 20th century Poles......
This tactic was tried on 1 of the talk shows recently. I think it was Hannity. Someone said how Irish came here “illegally”, so it’s OK for Mexicans.
However, I don’t think they stole up on various abandoned beaches trying to sneak past the immigration people. I don’t think they actually made it in 100% or even 50% illegal. I could be wrong, but somehow I think they came to ports where officials tried to make them all get in legally.
It’s a bogus comparison.
Never mind there used to be rules about what kind of people could come. And it wasn’t from racism. It was a genuine recognition that a) our system was the best and b) bringing in totally different cultures from our system of justice and freedom threatened to change this very government and style of freedom. There were quotas on how much could come in from given types of cultures. And it made sense.
We’re too PC for all that now.
Give me a break! The law defines the punishment. If you don't like the law too bad.
There are still some of us left who put national sovereignty and the Constitution above the wishes of the Church or of socialists.
Sounds like you're saying only people who believe in God deserve compassion and respect. In your religion, does compassion have to be earned that way?
That's not what the original settlers thought.
"They did not march in the streets claiming we stole their land."
Well maybe that's because we hadn't beat their arses in a war. LOL. Beside..a lot of the pics of the March were staged by socialists running the show.
"There was no MS13 gang murdering Americans."
Yes there were..there were fights with Irish gangs and the "Patriots" all over NY City. How do you think the Dems and the labor unions got their start? LOL.
"They were not sucking taxpayers dry and causing emergency rooms to be shut down. "
I haven't heard that..not questioning the validity, I just don't have enough info to respond.
What was the law then?
So, like the radical muslims, you want to turn back time and live in a previous century? Most of us have evolved along with our civilization.
The Catholic Church looks at illegals as poor needy (and almost all Catholic) people. They see their role as helping them. However, they fail to see that the Bible says to render under Caesar that which is Caesars—in other words, the law, as well as money(taxes). They also, like the political class, see a huge growth in church members from this influx—a bit of self-interest mixed in with the charity.
This week, my MD, a good Christian Methodist and a staunch conservative, said she had mixed feelings about the Immigratioin/Amnesty bill. She said as a Christian she feels we should take care of them. As a conservative, she wants the laws upheld.
This is a conflict many probably have, but they are in error. The Bible plainly
says to honor the laws of rhe land or “render unto Caesar”. Yes, I know that could be construed as rendering money, but the Bible places a lot of emphasis on following the laws and doing things in an orderly way—this bill is NOT orderly. It enshrines chaos. Jesus said we will always have the poor with us when the woman was annointing his feet with the expensive ointment which the Pharisees said she should sell and give the proceeds to the poor.
In carrying out this Catholic/Christian construct as seen by the Catholic church, we would have to extrapolate to take in Darfur and most of Africa. It simply is not feasible, and I can’t understand why these people cannot see that. If we destitute ourselves, we will then BE the poor and needy, and totally unable to help ourselves, much less others..
vaudine
Since they are Good People...........the best thing we could do for the good country of Mexico is to return them to where they can do the most good..............and they can take Jorge Bush with them.
Did you ask her why we should limit our benevolence to hispanics (who don't really want to be U.S. citizens) and ignore the Poles, Irish, Asians, Germans, Ethiopians, etc. that want to come here.
