Yes change the way you calculate overweight and of course the numbers will rise. Before BMI, the numbers were not that bad, but change calculations and suddenly you have an epidemic. Man whay people will do for money. It is sad that the American population buys into this crap!!!!
Look at what redefining high cholesterol did for the pharmaceutical industry.
Nevertheless, obesity is highly visible without blood tests or redfinition, and visitors to the US often are quick to notice it. Regardless of what the medical industry says, I suspect anyone who has been a sales clerk in a clothing store for their career could make an interesting Excel spreadsheet that would probably track that definition.
Visiting my niece on campus reinforced the impression. I knew what people looked like two generations ago, because I looked at the time...There really is not any doubt.
The BMI is ridiculous since it makes everyone except a skeletal vegan overweight but there are some seriously fat people out there as well - people so fat they can barely walk anymore.
Been to a Wal-Mart or amusement park lately?
Gigantic two-legged manatees sipping a 64 ounce sodas and eating candy, wondering why they’re fat.
BMI or not my lying eyes are amazed at the number of people with butts two axe handles wide........ That is a major change in my lifetime.
There is an epidemic of truly obese people in this country, and it doesn't make any difference how you calculate the numbers. Trying to accommodate the growing numbers of hippos is a problem in every industry that has to provide seating for people--airlines, theaters, stadiums, etc. People on average truly are bigger and fatter than they were fifty years ago.
