There is now a cryptic ANNOUNCEMENT on Mike Malloy's website:
MIKE MALLOY FIRED BY AIR AMERICA RADIO
There will be no Mike Malloy program today - or any day - on Air America Radio as we have been terminated. We are as shocked as you are. We are told its a financial decision.
As a result there is great mourning in the Leftist blogosphere as you can see in this DUmmie THREAD posted by Mrs. Mike Malloy titled, "Mike Malloy Fired from Air America Radio." Joining in the mourning process are the Daily Kos KOmmies with a THREAD titled, "BREAKING: Air America Does It Again - Mike Malloy FIRED." The amazing thing here is that even though many leftists have been ANNOYED by Al Franken or irritated by Randi Rhodes, they all liked Mike Malloy. So does this sound like the actions of a thriving radio network or the work of desperate cost cutting in order to afford the overinflated salaries of Franken and Rhodes? I will leave that speculation for later but right now let us join the DUmmies and KOmmies as they mourn the lost of Malloy in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, watching Air America sinking ever faster in the ratings, is in the [brackets]:

This is Kathy Bay Malloy and we just got news that as of this minute we've been terminated by Air America Radio.
[Mike's salary was needed to pay for Al Franken's private jet fuel expenses.]
We don't have all the details yet, but got a tip from someone who'd seen the new network lineup that we weren't included after all. We just had that confirmed by one of the suits a few minutes ago. We're told that its a financial decision.
[Al and Randi's knick-knacks don't come cheap.]

The corporate spin-doctors have some kind of lever with the advertisers at AAR and are trying to marginalize and splinter the rest of us. All is okay with whatever but just be aware how successful AAR had become in so short of a time.

in Burlington, VT, being moved to a "daytimer" station means they have to shut off at sunset. That means going off air by 4 pm or so each December afternoon.

Chattanooga's oldest radio station, WDOD, has ended its 11-month experiment with progressive talk radio.
At 10 a.m. this past Monday, the station switched to a format featuring musical oldies and standards from the late 1950s and the 1960s and 1970s, according to Danny Howard, director of programming and operations for WDEF and WDOD.
The new format, which is locally controlled, is known around the station as Ruby AM 1310.
Who's Ruby?
"It's kind of funny," Mr. Howard said with a laugh. "When we started talking about doing this, it turned out that everybody had an Aunt Ruby or a grandmother named Ruby who would like this kind of programming. And then, of course, Chattanooga has Ruby Falls . . . So we decided to name it after all the Rubys."
One highlight of the new format will be Ruby's Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting, when host Chris Adams will play Southern Gospel music. Adams also will host a similar show on Sundays called Ruby's Fried Chicken Sunday Dinner.
WDOD will continue to simulcast WDEF TV's early morning news show on weekdays, as well as WDEF TV's 6 p.m. newscasts.
The decision to drop Air America talk show programming grew out of the format's failure to attract adequate advertiser support, Mr. Howard said...

Some AM stations have to go off air at sunset to make room for clear channel stations (not to be confused with Clear Channel, a company that RUNS Air America on more than a few of its stations).
Example: In Boston, WILD (AM) 1090 has to go off at sunset because of WBAL in Baltimore, on the same frequency. Boston talk station WRKO (680) has to change the direction of its signal at sunset to protect station on the same frequency
in Raleigh, NC; Binghamton, NY; Baltimore, and Toronto.
This goes back to the days when there weren't many local
radio stations, and it was discovered that, at night,
signals would be found from distant areas easily. So some
stations were given permission to have a big strong signal,
one that would serve the local areas during the day, but much of the country at night. This is how WSM 650 in
Nashville became so popular, as people in much of the US
could pick it up at night. Of course this also means
many stations at 650 on the dial have to shut off or
change direction of their signal at night.
The Burlington, VT, station has to shut off at night because other stations on its freq. have priority. The owners of that station decided to put sports on the OTHER freq
(1390) which could go on after sunset, and they can carry
games, etc.; sports is more popular than Air America.
