Welcome aboard, PINGEE #902.
Amazingly it is actually easy reading when you realize that Gibbons wrote it in an ironically humorous way.
His Autobiography is also fun.
YOU CHEATIN' HART
Tune: "Your Cheatin' Heart"
You cheatin' Hart,
You rolled the dice,
Monkeyed around
With Donna Rice.
That boat-ride babe
Was some snafu;
You cheatin' Hart,
Your hopes were through.
The years rolled on
Like fading fame;
We never heard
More of your name.
Till you popped up
On this DUFU;
You cheatin' Hart,
You're borin' too.
Musical interlude
You cheatin' Hart,
You think it's Rome
And libs must hide
In catacombs.
But when in Rome,
Do like we do:
You cheatin' Hart,
We laugh at you!
[I remember the more recent history of a presidential candidate who invited the press to follow him around to see if he was cheating. Well, the press did follow him around just like he asked and they caught him cheating.]
Yeah, that "reverse psychology" ploy really blew up in your face, didn't it, Hart?
LOL!
You and dfu are truly FR treasures when it comes to lyric parodies.
I don't think I've told you how happy I am that you're back. And with a whole album's worth of songs!
Tiring of the old Bush=Hitler mantra, Hart is taking a different tack: "21st Century America=the fall of Rome".
Oh, the horror! Oh, the humanity (hugh manatee?)! Bush has...um...wait a minute...
Isn't the President of the United States also the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES? Then would it not be natural for him to "take control not only of defense and military policy, but also military operations"?
Nice.
ARRRRRRRRRRGH!!! This just annoys me every time I see or hear it. Let me say it once again, DUmmies:
NO PRESIDENT EVER TAKES A REAL VACATION! THEY ARE ALL WORKING VACATIONS!!!!
Advances in network technology have made it possible for the POTUS, and others, to do their jobs remotely, even on "vacation". The same technology that lets someone in India do my job, allows Bush to do his job without always having to plant his butt behind his desk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. If taking a few minutes to clear brush on his Texas ranch allows President Bush to step back briefly from the pressure cooker in D.C., and helps him clear his mind, then God bless him. His ranch AND Camp David are fully equipped with state-of-the-art communications. He receives foreign heads of state while "on vacation". He has meetings with key leaders while "on vacation". But idiots like these HUffies (and DUmmies, and KOssacks) make it sound like he's on the beach on Tahiti, sipping a Corona and not answering the phone.
The separation of Church and State is not about keeping religion safe from government, but keeping the government safe from religious fanatacism.
OK, let's examine that. The First Amendment says:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
I dunno. Sounds to me like the First Amendment is protecting religion, and the practice thereof, from government, not the other way around! Oh...and I also don't see the phrase, "separation of church and state" in there anywhere.
Wait a minute...didn't this HUffie just NEGATE something that Hart said in his article? Why, yes...yes, he did:
In 21st century America the current government (the presidency and Congress of one party) has taken control not only of defense and military policy, but also military operations.
So which way is it, HUffies? Does the President control the Pentagon, or is it the other way around?
HUffie, weren't you paying attention? Senator Hart is TIRED of the Bush=Hitler mantra, so he is trying a "new" and "refreshing" approach...fresh as a country meadow:
Ask and Ye shall receive. Thanx for those "Cheatin' Hart" lyrics.
Aw, geez, AGAIN with the "martial law" crap. The Left drags this fantasy out before EVERY election.
DUAC! DUAC!!!!
Oh...wait a minute...this is the Huffington Post...
HUAC! HUAC!!!!
Fixed easily enough... Just say it stands foor Christian Era.
A simple question, one the DUmmies and KOSsacks never, ever consider--If these paranoid fantasies were true, THEY WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO PUBLISH THESE OP-EDS PROCLAIMING WE LIVE IN TOTALITARIAN STATE.
Oops, not a question, an observation. I just woke up, still in dreamland...
