Free Republic's Roots

Founded in 1996 by Jim Robinson, what is FreeRepublic about?

What is our mission? Free Republic is dedicated to reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and is advocating a complete restoration of our constitutional republic. Listed below are some of the issues we feel strongly about...

A return to a strictly Constitutional form of federal government will automatically repeal and abolish all unconstitutional federal involvement in states issues such as: crime, health, education, welfare and the environment...This will also require that social programs such as Social Security, welfare and Medicare be repealed. ~~ Jim Robinson, March 1999

Statement by the founder of Free Republic:

In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side...We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism... Free Republic's Next Triumph

The excerpts above were taken from existing or former webpages posted by Jim Robinson. Having been a member of FreeRepublic before the 1996 election, the mission statement once included the impeachment of Bill Clinton as one of FreeRepublic's goals, a goal the House Managers credited FreeRepublic with achieving. Now, after ten years of false starts and misfires, the second and third goals as stated in FreeRepublic's Mission Statement above, 2reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and 3complete restoration of our constitutional republic, are finally within reach. Over the next several weeks, various Freepers will be posting the thinking and the mechanics behind this effort.

Those of you who have been Freepers long enough know that FreeRepublic played a pivotal role in generating the momentum and emotion that led to a successful vote in the House to Impeach then President Bill Clinton. Reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and bringing about the complete restoration of our constitutional republic could depend on how effective Freepers and FreeRepublic prove to be in generating the kind of momentum and emotion that FreeRepublic produced during impeachment.

Jim Robinson and the members of FreeRepublic are owed an immense debt of gratitude by Freedom loving Americans. You are all Patriots in the true sense of the word. We thank you; we Salute you. And now we ask for your help in undertaking the most important part of FreeRepublic's acknowledged mission.

Our Challenge To You:

If you don't believe or cannot accept the idea that this plan can and will work, the burden of proof is on you to either improve it or put forward a replacement that is better. FreeRepublic has a long overdue mission to complete. In spite of some readily apparent Republican and conservative gains, it can be argued that we are not measurably closer to the objective than when FreeRepublic was founded. Those who would take issue with this claim should stop and consider that the unconstitutional entitlements are poised to grow exponentially over the next two decades. Get out your ping lists, start reviewing your address books and email lists, and start thinking about the people with whom you want to share this series as it unfolds or with whom you want to share it after it is complete and you are convinced.

Our Pledge to You:

And for the support of this mission, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, We, as members of We the people pledge to the members of FreeRepublic and mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

That's the reasoning I used to pick my screen name....

And to think some of the other FReepers were saying that you were an idiot. :) HA!

Just kidding, b4. That's good reasoning.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

This is one of the reasons the group is no longer together. :)

From the Elliot Wave International website:
Elliott Wave International (EWI) is one of the world's largest providers of market research and technical analysis.

If I counted correctly, Prechter has written thirteen books and countless financial articles that have appeared in publications around the world.

In addition, Mr. Prechter has won numerous awards for market timing, including the United States Trading Championship, and in 1989 was awarded the “Guru of the Decade’’ title by Financial News Network (now CNBC). He has been named ``one of the premier timers in stock market history’’ by Timer Digest, ``the champion market forecaster’’ by Fortune magazine, ``the world leader in Elliott Wave interpretation’’ by The Securities Institute, and ``the nation’s foremost proponent of the Elliott Wave method of forecasting’’ by The New York Times.

Airborn, everybody, including you, deserves the benefit of the doubt. But sometimes when in doubt, it pays to keep your mouth shut and risk being thought a fool, instead of opening it and removing all doubt.

I took a look at your "about page". The Constitution does create a system of checks and balances as a part of its primary focus, which is limiting the powers of Federal government. It is not the checks and balances that are important. The reason for the existence of the Constitution and its purpose is to impose specific carefully spelled out limits on the powers of the Federal government. No one should ever forget the importance of the Declaration of Independence or its precedents. Our unalienable rights are gifts from God, not from government. The power of the American people does not come from government. It is precisely the other way around. Government's powers are grants from us to enable government to do specific tasks. This series of articles is focused on restraining an out of control government and forcing it to live within its Constitutional restraints. When all three branches of government, including the Supreme Court, are clearly misconstruing the Constitution and violating its terms, only We the people can put it back in its cage.

Airborn, let me welcome you to FreeRepublic and invite you to join our little band of merry men who intend to put the beast back in its box before it bankrupts us all. Make no mistake, there is nothing bizarre about Prechter or this series of articles.

"I see that you were here for the War of 10-15-2005..."

I have eaten asbestos like other people eat donuts. Trust me, I was flame-proof before you got out of diapers, but that is all beside the point. See post #53 above. Many Freepers seem to believe that their length of membership on FreeRepublic increases their credibility over other Freepers with less longevity. Older horses don't run faster. I would ask OO, that's Osage Orange, not double zeroes, to focus on the message. Do not look at credentials of the messinger as a substitute for thinking about the message. Trust your judgment as opposed to looking to others to validate what you think or believe.

I remind you of the Russian proverb in the first article of the series.

when the politicians start returning home for the holidays, we need to seek them out and ask what they have done for their country, not what they have done for themselves. My senators and reps are disgraceful, either hiding among the crowd, or even worse, taking the lead in issuing talking points at the drop of a hat.

I already tried pledging my fortune...didn't work.

Bob. You have to actually have a fortune to pledge.

Wow! No damn wonder I'm on your ping list. Good job! It would've taken me a novel to say what you said in four paragraph

I knew there were geniuses on this forum. :) HA!

Actually, thank you for the wonderful comments. It's quite humbling. I can assure you of that.

To: writer33; Jim Robinson

As I recall, this "private website" and the writer(s) of this series want everybody on FR to send in some money so that political weight can be slung around.

I want to know what Jim Robinson thinks about this series of articles. I'd like to know if the writer slinging his name around and trolling for people to take the "pledge" has JR's blessing.

I don't think so, frankly, but I'm willing to be wrong. I've read the entire series, and it's rather vague until the very end, when it begins to discuss money.

Frankly, I think FR does a better job getting action than this person or persons.
