Wilson's lies may finally be coming apart - can anyone reach Victor Davis Hanson to see if he'd be willing to add his public corroboration via another, very similar, conversation he reported about a "TV green room" encounter he had with Joe Wilson??? I know that Hanson's separate account (of Joe Wilson carelessly 'outing' his CIA wife long before the Novak column) has been discussed on some blogs but it might be time for him to add his recollections to the developing story with Vallely and Wilson's reckless email (below):

WILSON PANICS

Wilson panics. Have been five hours in correspondence with Major General Paul Vallely USA (ret) West Point '61, now of FNC, and Joe Farah, editor of WorldNetDaily.com, re a flap between Vallely and Joe Wilson.
Last week, Paul Vallely told me on my radio show that, in the spring of 2002, he recalls Wilson boasting of his wife as a "CIA desk officer" in the green room at FNC in Washington DC.
WorldNetDaily heard the broadcast and wrote it up on Friday night.

Today, according to the WND article just posted:

"A demand letter was sent by Christopher Wolf, partner at Proskauer Rose LLP and counsel for Wilson, to both Vallely and WND tonight.
It disputes Vallely's claim that Wilson mentioned Valerie Plame's status with the CIA in at least three separate conversations in 2002 in the Fox News Channel's "green room" in Washington as they waited to appear as analysts.

"As you know, that assertion and the claim that Ambassador Wilson revealed to you or to anyone that his wife worked for the CIA is patently false, and subjects you and anyone publishing your statements to legal liability," states the letter.

It continues: "We are writing to demand that you immediately retract the assertion attributed to you and to insist that you stop making the false allegation. In addition, we request that you identify all persons or entitites (sic) to whom you made any claim that Ambassador Wilson revealed his wife's employment at the CIA to you."

I have been in communication with Vallely and Farah all evening, and both will be on my show on Monday night 7 November at 1005 pm est. Vallely is certain of his memory. Farah is certain of his report. I am certain of them both. I also urging Paul Vallely to insist Wilson apologize for accusing Vallely of "slanderous" conduct in an e-mail that Wilson wrote to Wolf that was inadvertently included in the original demand e-mail to Vallely.

Here's the quote from Wilson's e-mail to Wolf:

"This is slanderous," Wilson wrote. "I never appeared on tv before at least July 2002 and only saw him maybe twice in the green room at FOX. Vallely is a retired general and this is a bald faced lie. Can we sue? This is not he said/she said, since I never laid eyes on him till several months after he alleges I spoke to him about my wife."

On Monday, I will also insist that the CIA ask DOJ to begin an investigation that Wilson, by naming his wife a "CIA desk officer," may have violated the five year limit protecting "covert agents" under the 1982 law. Turn the matter over to Fitzgerald to resolve the ambiguities of memory.

My quick version of this smoke and noise is that it means that Wilson panics self-destructively.

More soon.

Enchante, would you happen to know for a fact if Valerie was/is out of the country? I believe it was reported she was in France. The DC gossip mill has reported Joe has not been lonely.

I am starting to wonder if Joe was the true ruin of his wife's career. The introduction Joe gave her described in Vanity Fair is so, so bubba. who can forget the "I honor you!" after the bluse dress surfaced)

Somebody's memory or ability to distinguish one year from another is faulty. I sure hope it is not Gen Vallely who is confused; or "spring" and "july" can be meshed.

Thanks for the ping. But regardless of how it turns out for Wilson, it appears Libby's perjery charges will stick. His lawyers have to figure out how to get the charge dropped and or acquited of the charge(s). No response required since I cannot add anything of value to this discussion.
