When I heard that the prosecuter was asking neighbors if they knew about Plame, I suspected that the neighbors were too intimidated or deliberately lying about the fact that they knew she worked at the CIA.

What's out of order?: Late Tuesday, July 8th, a "friend" of Joe's was walking toward's Joe's Office down Pennsylvania Avenue. This "friend" approched Novak and asked him what he thought of Joe (out of the clear blue sky??????) Novak said: "Joe was an a**".
I'm thinking this "friend" used the same line as Cooper, i.e., I heard his wife works at the CIA." The "friend" continued to Joe's office and they wrote eveything down (like attorney's do).
Joe talked to Novak BEFORE the article, as late as the 10th. Joe didn't call the CIA? Are you telling me he didn't ask Wolf (his attorney) for advice before he called Novak. Bull!
I think the "friend" may turn out to be the attorney. (I wonder if they're in the same Office?) Joe and his attorney are both covered by attorney/client privileges. They can plot, plan and scheme until the cows come home and don't have to say snitch!
Why didn't ANYONE from the CIA, FBI, Dem Camp call Joe on the 11th when the story hit the wire.
Don't forget, the "BIG SECRET" which HAD TO BE KNOWN BY THE DEM CAMP was THE ANONYMOUS ENVOY" not who his wife was. That would "OF COURSE" come out.
I just learned that Russert's wife works for Vanity Fair. We're looking behind the wrong door. It's not the "anonymous source" question. It's the "spouse and/or attorney" privileges afforded by the court.
