WASHINGTON – Ambassador Joseph Wilson's attorney is demanding Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely retract a statement he made to WND that the man at the center of the CIA leak case "outed" his own wife as a CIA employee in conversations more than a year before her identity was revealed in a syndicated column.

Jim, I thought you might find it worth keeping an eye out for this guy in relation to any cases involving WaPo (past client of his), electronic privacy issues, MD4Bush, etc.

Joe Wilson's attorney and neighbor, Christopher Wolf, is said by his firm to be an expert on privacy law and the Internet who won a case for WaPo:

http://www.proskauer.com/practice_areas/areas/095

His firm appears to be Democratic, originally based in NY Democratic circles from the 1920s (though anti-FDR, at least with respect to Mr. Proskauer). Would be most interesting to know whether Mr. Wolf's connection to the Wilson/Pflame affair is really as accidental and casual as he portrays (see his USA Today column below) or if Wolf or any other members of his liberal firm have had a larger role to play behind the scenes........

Th past five years have been so full of events that it is hard to keep the years straight. We have to focus on March 2003 as March to Baghdad month. General Vallely would have been on Fox to discuss Afghanistan efforts in 2002. Why would Joe Wilson have been there - he went to Niger in Feb of that year, but did not write the op-ed for another 16 months.

We have to think March 2003 :: BB = before Baghdad and AB = after Baghdad fell.

I smell the beginings of a deal to drop all charges for Scooter here - Wilson grilled on the stand for hours on end (lie , upon lie, upon lie exposed) - the dims can't want that...

That was my advice to Libby's lawyer from the get-go. Put up witnesses who will testify that they new Ms. Plame was CIA. Ditto those who will testify that they heard it from Plame or Wilson. Then put Plame and Wilson on the stand. Plame and Wilson either lie or tell the truth. Being untruthful has great risks for both of them. I don't think they would do it. Bottom line: lots of people knew that Valerie was CIA. Scooter could have heard it from lots of people. You can't throw a guy in jail for not remembering the details exactly. Slam dunk.

But I agree. Wilson could not take the heat. He would destroy Fitz's case. A deal will be cut. Libby will walk with a slap on the hand.

In Wilson's case....probably a little of both.

I am sure the payola part is hugh...but, I keep hearing what a peacock this guy is...and I know that certain personality disorders, like those with visions of grandeur, just do NOT see things the way they are...but, like they want them to be...

I think that pathological liars just get so good at it...that they "fool themselves"....but, in Wilson's case, I am sure he is aware of all of this, and loving every second of it...his ego craves it.

"Why would Joe Wilson have been there - he went to Niger in Feb of that year, but did not write the op-ed for another 16 months."

It does make me worry that Vallely has his dates mixed up - though finding out if Wilson was on Fox at all in the first half of 2002 would go a long way toward knowing whether Wilson's emphatic denial in his email to his lawyer is more hot air...... but since Wilson did the Niger trip in Feb. 2002, maybe (speculation) he was setting himself up to be a "TV expert" on the whole of the Middle East, not only Iraq, in the months after so that the could have a platform to oppose any WH moves toward the war that everyone was expecting.... would be interesting to be able to trace the various activities of Richard Clarke, Rand Beers, Joe Wilson, and others in 2002, since they knew that they wanted to oppose the evil neocons on Iraq and keep the US from doing anything about Saddam..... and they were each also surely jockeying to be ready to align themselves with a favorite Democratic candidate long before 2004. Clarke, Beers, and Wilson all saw themselves as great "wise men" in waiting for the Demagogic Party, and at least Beers and Wilson ended up in a close formal relationship with the Kerry campaign while Clarke did his dirty work on national TV and in his stupid book (more shades of Joe Wilson).

We need to try to "follow the money" into the shadows, and there is, at least potentially, big big money to support Wilson's activities: (1) possible sources of funding and clients for his international consulting firm that has evident shadowy ties with French, Turkish, and Saudi deep pockets; (2) has Wilson benefitted financially from his jihad against the WH (his form of consulting for mineral development projects in W. Africa would certainly benefit from favorable opinions of him among French officials and businessmen who are heavily influential in that region!!!) (3) any oil-for-food money find its way to Wilson or people around him??? (Wilson sure did his damndest to help Saddam and his sons stay in power) (4) this "Proskauer Rose" law firm in which Christopher Wolf is a partner may only be an indidental connection, or it may turn out to be a major player behind the scenes (it is a huge 700+ lawyers wealthy Democrat-oriented law firm).

Pedro Almeida, MIT alumnus 1988, dropped a line from Iraq. He is currently serving as an Apache attack helicopter battalion commander in Baghdad as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"While the mission is a very difficult one, my soldiers are doing great. We are flying a tremendous number of security flights over the city in order to help provide a stable environment for the burgeoning Iraqi democratic process. While the security situation is definitely harsh and the insurgency is very active, have no doubt that the process is steadily moving forward for Iraqi self-governance and self-security.

Yew, he did go to Niger twice.

February 19 2002
The CIA Counterproliferation Division (CPD) holds a meeting at CIA headquarters with Joe Wilson. In attendance are intelligence analysts from both the CIA and the State Department's INR. At the beginning of the meeting Valerie Plame introduces Wilson, then leaves after three minutes. The purpose of the meeting it to discuss the merits of sending Wilson to Niger to verify or negate the reports that Iraq was seeking to purchase uranium from Niger.[10] He is asked to attend because of his expertise on Africa and his knowledge of the African uranium trade, gained during his years at the Clinton White House.
This meeting in a windowless conference room opens with a mention of Mr. Cheney's inquiry about the African connection to Iraq. During the course of that meeting, officials raised the possibility of his traveling to Niger and told him they would contact him with a decision.

February 20
Wilson is asked and accepts the mission to Niger and is provided talking points for use in his inquiries in Niger.

February 21
Wilson leaves for Niger. During his trip, current and former Niger officials Wilson talks to say they were unaware of any contract being signed with Iraq. Wilson finds no evidence of uranium purchase. (Wilson 452) [11]

March 2002
Wilson returns from Niger's capital Niamey in early March.
Wilson delivers his [verbal] report to CIA regarding the suspected uranium deal stating that it was "highly doubtful" any transfer of uranium took place. Wilson's report does mention that one former Niger official told him he had been urged by an unidentified businessman to meet with an Iraqi trade delegation in June 1999. This former official interpreted that overture as an invitation to discuss uranium sales. (Wilson 452) [12].

February-March 2002
Marine Gen. Carlton W. Fulford, Jr., then-deputy commander of the U.S. European Command said he came away from Niger "assured" that the supply of "yellowcake" was kept secure by a French consortium. Fulford was asked by the U.S. ambassador to Niger, Barbro Owens-Kirkpatrick, to join her at the meeting with Niger's President Mamadou Tandja on Feb. 24, 2002. "I was asked to impress upon the president the importance that the yellowcake in Niger be under control," Fulford said. "I did that. He assured me. He said the mining operations were handled through a French consortium" and therefore out of the Niger government's control. Owens-Kirkpatrick, reached by phone, declined to comment.

Ah!, French security!!

The Intelligence Committeee mentions a Navy report that enriched uranium is being stored in a particular warehouse in Niger. When the warehouse is searched nearly a month later it is empty.

I read somewhere that the Wilsons held fund raisers for the Clintons. I can't seem to corroborate that .. but I have seen video of the Clintons greeting them in a receiving line and you could tell they were well acquainted.

Now .. if you allowed people to raise money for you - what information might you know about that person .. like the fact that Valerie worked at the CIA, and had at one time been undercover. Her cover was blown by Aldrich Ames in 1997 - and she was brought in from the cold. But .. she never worked as a spy after that time. It was after that time in 1997 that Valerie met Joseph Wilson and married him.

Somehow I just can't shake the notion that Hillary was behind the whole Wilson episode. She certainly had motive - she wanted to run for pres in 2004 - and Bush was in her way. And .. Hillary certainly had opportunity with her connection to the CIA via Valerie. The goal was to discredit the intel and therefore discredit Bush - weakening him to the point Bush could either be impeached or Hillary could run against Bush and win.

Hillary is obsessed with IMPEACHING A REPUBLICAN as payback for impeaching her husband.

This is from http://strata-sphere.com/blog/ which I found while doing a search. I cannot vouch for the accuracy or completenss, but it is a starting point.

Well, when was Wilson possibly in the Green Room with Vallely? In reverse chronological order:

January 10th, 2003 (Vallely, Wilson). Wilson was on John Gibson’s show this day. Which is why Gibson has similar recollections to General Vallely. Vallely was on Cavuto which airs right before Gibson’s show.

November 18, 2002 (Vallely, Wilson). Vallely was scheduled for 1:10, Wilson was to be on after 3:00 PM.

October 1, 2003 (Vallely, Wilson). Wilson was on Fox and Friends in the morning, Vallely on Cavuto. Depending on when Vallely came in to tape his section they could have met up.

September 12, 2002 - they were on the same show at 3:00 PM.

August 20, 2002 (Vallely, Wilson). Wilson was on Greta and Vallely on Cavuto. Depending on when/if things were taped the could have run into each other.

^^^^^^

I guess we will have to listen to John Batchelor tomorrow night. If this wasn't so serious, it would be a great reality show!

I especially want to hear about the top-notch "internet attorney" who forwards emails with sensitive notes attached === I [am] also urging Paul Vallely to insist Wilson apologize for accusing Vallely of "slanderous" conduct in an e-mail that Wilson wrote to Wolf that was inadvertently included in the original demand e-mail to Vallely.

I think at this point it's possible to demonstrate from Wilson's financial associations that he had lots of vested interests and potential incentives motivating his actions, but to prove an actual payoff will probably take an official investigation with subpoena power. However even if we stick to what's currently known from the public record, Wilson has made public statements which constitute direct evidence of a motivation to influence America's Iraq policy and to impeach Bush and make the government of Tony Blair "fall", to use a phrase from his EPIC lecture (delivered prior to Novak's article mentioning Plame, indicating that Wilson had these goals even before he alleges the White House "retaliated" against him):

Joseph Wilson EPIC Lecture 6/14/2003 Outline/Transcript

I can assure you that that retired American ambassador to Africa, as Nick Kristof called him in his article, is also pissed off, and has every intention of ensuring that this story has legs. And I think it does have legs. It may not have legs over the next two or three months, but when you see American casualties moving from one to five or to ten per day, and you see Tony Blair's government fall because in the U.K. it is a big story, there will be some ramifications, I think, here in the United States, so I hope that you will do everything you can to keep the pressure on. Because it is absolutely bogus for us to have gone to war the way we did. . .I think it probably has legs, too, because of the course the press operates on profits, and if they can make a scandal out of this they'll do it, you know, that'll be great. And you already hear people talking about the 'i' word.

Wilson may have had financial motivations over and above these political motivations, but at least with regards to his political motivations there is direct evidence from his own mouth.
