In the middest of the chaos and despair, that is in the City of New Orleans, there have been people waiting for at least three days for food and water. The media has been squawking the loudest about the slowness of the food convoys. When a truckload of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) finally arrived in to help feed the masses, that have not had any food or water; you would think that these people would be grateful.
That seems to be not the case in the eyes of some people. Yes, that is right, there are some people that have refused to have anything to do with the MREs. A case in point, a woman that was hollering the loudest about not having anything to eat, was handed an MRE and refused it. The reason? It had not been heated.
Well sister, I hope that you can live for a few more days. It is going to quite awhile before there is any way to serve up any hot meals. The only way that there might be any hot food, is if you build a campfire and cook food that way. I doubt that you would be able to find any food to cook over a campfire anyway, as the government wont there to hand out the food to cook or to make the fire for you.
If our troops in the field in Iraq and Afghanistan can gain weight by eating MREs, surely you can subsist on these for a few days. The same troops that are subsisting on these MREs and have been for the last 2.5 years, seem to take it all in stride as a part of doing business.
Thanks.... :-) LOTS of posters in this thread have replied to me about seeing/hearing the same thing!
LOL! ;-) You're BAD! :-)
The lab was working on PB&J sandwiches that would last packaged for a few years. "Anybody can package the bread,
PB, and jelly separately, but ours is going to be ready-to-eat out of the package..."
I heard they are self-heating.
They are quite "fit to eat". Sure they are more appetizing warm, but that doesn't matter.
I've eaten plenty of MRE's cold and they are a meal. I've gone 5 days without eating and I'll tell you what, I wasn't too picky about what I ate by day three. Appetizing wasn't even on the list of my priorities.
If this story is true, then this woman had eaten a full meal within 12 hours.
They've already started. :-(
I never thought I'd be able to complain about the complainers! Thanks for the thread!
Did anyone see the woman, standing on dry land, sun shining, outside her brother's house, in Mississippi or Alabama, demanding that she be given a place to stay? This was two days ago. She was complaining that she hasn't been given a place to stay yet, and that she HAD to sleep on her brother's porch. (His house was intact.)
The only thing I could think of is that he didn't want her in the house!
In God We Trust.....Semper Fi
I saw it too. With her 91 year old father? She was complaining about the food. I've eaten them.
They may be `M(eals) R(ejected) by E(thiopians)' but if you won't eat an MRE then you aren't really hungry.
MRE's are good enough for our troops but not good enough for her, I guess.
Brian: I think I know the food distribution that you are referring to. Wasn't that when the Symbionese Liberation Front was holding Patty Hearst hostage and they demanded that her father donate about $40,000 worth of food to the poor? They went through a series of those demands, and then they never released her. And then she joined their group. I think there were at least two of those food drop offs and they both turned into near riots. I had moved from the Bay Area at the time, but I was following the case closely in the newspaper and on TV.
Thanks for posting this. the author nails it.
What a beautiful baby!
I saw the interview. The woman actually complained that the MRE wasn't heated, and that the crackers were dry!
As others have already stated: there are chemical heating packets with instructions inside of each meal. And every MRE is edible at room temperature.
If I were hungry enough, I could eat a room-temperature Chicken ala King MRE, or even a C-Ration Lima Beans and Ham.
I don't think she's "stranded" anymore. She's been rescued and given what the rescuers could bring.
She should take it or not take it and STFU.
