Moonbats wonder: "Why do more people visit Free Republic than DU?"

The DUers are starting to cut through the fog and ponder reality:

Why do more people visit Freerepublic than DU?

My analysis:

They are a right wingers, pure and passionate ones at it. The more right wing a matter is, the more they embrace it and support it. They are a cohesive whole.
We are not.
Opinions please.

3. some people need to hear themselves echoed back. this is true because any dissent is deleted immediately. they are self perpetuating delusional. its easier for some people to be told what to think than to actually think for themselves. thinking for yourselves means to be critical and seeking. lots of people also hit and run, logging in off and on all day long.

4. How do you know this ?

Do you have a way of counting FR's hits, or are you relying on a counter on their site, etc? Personally, I wouldn't trust a thing any of those people would say about their traffic.

And I know a few DUers who are brave enough to visit from time to time, so you can't say everyone who visits is a passionate right winger.

As for cohesive whole, that is an illusion, and one that they try to maintain via smoke and mirrors. The media hypes their cause, and always seems to make their numbers and clout seem greater than they really are.

5. The extreme right-wing in this country is a lot like ants.

If something is a potential threat to the rest of the hive, they go out and attack. They may not even know why or what they're attacking, they just follow the rest of the hive because it's instinct to follow everyone else.
[Yes, genius, we all live in an ant "hive."]

7. FR was big before DU was. That's part of it. Things get bigger with age on the Net, generally.

I was on FR ages ago when there was still such a thing as an agnostic economic conservative. (well, not that the economic conservatism stood up to time as I learned more about economics, but it wasn't all "intelligent falling" all the time, to use the latest terminology)

10. They don't whine & censor strong posts which represent the 'hard right...'

Over at DU, the subtle infiltrators and trolls are allowed to post unmolested and control the 'tone' of the board (constantly moving DU to the 'middle,') while those (of us) on the Left (and/or 'hard Left') are constantly scrutinized, for fear of offending the moderates.

To wit: a post of mine was removed by the mods in the fall of 2004 for calling Joe Lieberman 'Joe LieberBush.' Freerepublic.com would not have censored a member for a similar comment about a 'moderate' Republican.

Freerepublic.com immediately removes/bans people who infiltrate their group. Hence, their members can enjoy reading and posting on their board.

BTW, just to clarify, I am an opponent of the Reichwing - I do not support freerepublic.com's viewpoints/beliefs.

Implying that all moderate Dems are subtle infiltrators and trolls! Good job!

22. NO, no, no. Not what I meant. I meant, the tone of this board should...
be defined as 'hard Left' as the 'other side' is allowed to go 'full court press' with their views/tactics. That is why they (unfortunately) remain in power.

21. The Left always factionalises more than the Right - probably because the Left is more interested in integrity and truth, whereas the Right is more focussed on winning at any cost (and mutual reinforcement of delusional belief systems ) imho.

26. Because half the DUers spend their time over there. I don't understand it, but they do. I guess it likens to the appeal of American Idol and other mindless forms of substandard entertainment.

27. Probably because Free Republic:

has more registered and active members

is mentioned frequently by Limbaugh, Hannity, and other right wing media personalities with vast audiences

and has been around much longer than DU I believe.

32. We advertise the freepers a lot too The number of posts containing the word "Freeper" in the title is alarming.

We are constantly referring to them. Maybe it is time to tone down that habit.
[Shhhhhh! You'll wake the others.]

36. yeah that will never happen

for some reason some people on this board care what free republic, "that other site", and other places think about them or democratic underground. There's too much vanity among some people here for toning down linking to FR, "the other site", etc. to ever happen.

44. Don't personally visit there, but some of the posts I've seen listed

here seem to indicate that most of the activity on there is not at all intellectual. Their purpose appears to be to either bash the Clintons, Gore, Kerry or bully anyone who doesn't accept on faith the neocon plans for our country. Mostly the postings usually have many mispelled words and it is obvious a lot of the people do not read or try to become informed.

Maybe koolaid in the drinking fountains?

61. Oh, I think it's because of their attractive interface and the abundance of thought provoking and original ideas that spring forth

Honestly? Being a part of DU is a lot more work. You have to consider different sides of the issues and do some serious thinking for yourself here. Not real high on either their list of available skills or priorities. FreakRepublic is easy. It's the sound of one hand clapping in a echo chamber. Listen to your AM radio, log on and repeat. Continue until you ARE the kool-aid. Continue until zombie Jesus tells you what to do next.

Have you seen Sean Gleeson's flash-powered Autorantic Virtual Moonbat? Hilarious bit of programming...and just the fact that you COULD create a realistic Liberal simulator proves the degree of intellectual ossification at DU

Their proof is that media outlets are owned by corporations and, as we all know, all corporations are eeeeevil! It's rather simple, really.

Yes, it's rather simply, delusional!

An answer full of common sense, which is a trait alien to DU. They would never think of this reason.

"More money equals a better infrastructure, making it a more welcomed place to be. "
***You could throw George Soros at that problem and DU would still come up smelling bad. It has nothing to do with money. This place started with little more than the bulletin board format that you denigrate, but people come back because they are treated respectfully.

There are some interesting parallels between DU's failure corresponding to British Imperialism and Free Republic's ascendance corresponding to the United States. When this place first started, it was dirt poor, but everyone wanted to come here because of the PRINCIPLES that were being put into place. There was a mutual respect and diginity in the air, even with people you don't agree. It was better for everyone, from the top to the bottom of the social strata.

This is too funny. Aside from the political, the language at DU is execrable. It's clear that the majority of posters received substandard educations.

The funny thing is, they're always talking about how smart they are and how much better at spelling they are than Freepers.
