The DUers are starting to cut through the fog and ponder reality:

Why do more people visit Freerepublic than DU?
My analysis:
They are a right wingers, pure and passionate ones at it. The more right wing a matter is, the more they embrace it and support it. They are a cohesive whole.
We are not.
Opinions please.

3. some people need to hear themselves echoed back. this is true because any dissent is deleted immediately. they are self perpetuating delusional. its easier for some people to be told what to think than to actually think for themselves. thinking for yourselves means to be critical and seeking. lots of people also hit and run, logging in off and on all day long.

4. How do you know this ?
Do you have a way of counting FR's hits, or are you relying on a counter on their site, etc? Personally, I wouldn't trust a thing any of those people would say about their traffic.
And I know a few DUers who are brave enough to visit from time to time, so you can't say everyone who visits is a passionate right winger.
As for cohesive whole, that is an illusion, and one that they try to maintain via smoke and mirrors. The media hypes their cause, and always seems to make their numbers and clout seem greater than they really are.

5. The extreme right-wing in this country is a lot like ants.
If something is a potential threat to the rest of the hive, they go out and attack. They may not even know why or what they're attacking, they just follow the rest of the hive because it's instinct to follow everyone else.
[Yes, genius, we all live in an ant "hive."]

7. FR was big before DU was. That's part of it. Things get bigger with age on the Net, generally.
I was on FR ages ago when there was still such a thing as an agnostic economic conservative. (well, not that the economic conservatism stood up to time as I learned more about economics, but it wasn't all "intelligent falling" all the time, to use the latest terminology)

10. They don't whine & censor strong posts which represent the 'hard right...'
Over at DU, the subtle infiltrators and trolls are allowed to post unmolested and control the 'tone' of the board (constantly moving DU to the 'middle,') while those (of us) on the Left (and/or 'hard Left') are constantly scrutinized, for fear of offending the moderates.
To wit: a post of mine was removed by the mods in the fall of 2004 for calling Joe Lieberman 'Joe LieberBush.' Freerepublic.com would not have censored a member for a similar comment about a 'moderate' Republican.
Freerepublic.com immediately removes/bans people who infiltrate their group. Hence, their members can enjoy reading and posting on their board.
BTW, just to clarify, I am an opponent of the Reichwing - I do not support freerepublic.com's viewpoints/beliefs.

22. NO, no, no. Not what I meant. I meant, the tone of this board should...
be defined as 'hard Left' as the 'other side' is allowed to go 'full court press' with their views/tactics. That is why they (unfortunately) remain in power.

21. The Left always factionalises more than the Right - probably because the Left is more interested in integrity and truth, whereas the Right is more focussed on winning at any cost (and mutual reinforcement of delusional belief systems ) imho.

27. Probably because Free Republic:
has more registered and active members
is mentioned frequently by Limbaugh, Hannity, and other right wing media personalities with vast audiences
and has been around much longer than DU I believe.

32. We advertise the freepers a lot too The number of posts containing the word "Freeper" in the title is alarming.
We are constantly referring to them. Maybe it is time to tone down that habit.

36. yeah that will never happen
for some reason some people on this board care what free republic, "that other site", and other places think about them or democratic underground. There's too much vanity among some people here for toning down linking to FR, "the other site", etc. to ever happen.

44. Don't personally visit there, but some of the posts I've seen listed
here seem to indicate that most of the activity on there is not at all intellectual. Their purpose appears to be to either bash the Clintons, Gore, Kerry or bully anyone who doesn't accept on faith the neocon plans for our country. Mostly the postings usually have many mispelled words and it is obvious a lot of the people do not read or try to become informed.

Honestly? Being a part of DU is a lot more work. You have to consider different sides of the issues and do some serious thinking for yourself here. Not real high on either their list of available skills or priorities. FreakRepublic is easy. It's the sound of one hand clapping in a echo chamber. Listen to your AM radio, log on and repeat. Continue until you ARE the kool-aid. Continue until zombie Jesus tells you what to do next.
Fair and balanced: I must say I have come across a handful of DUers who claim a new respect for the 2nd Amendment. Of course, these are the same ones who think they're living in 1930's Germany.....
"...logging in off and on all day long"
Could this mean we actually have jobs and lives outside the internet?
Mebbe because we act civilized and don't load our posts and replies with f-bombs and s-bombs. You know, something you don't mind the kids reading.

85. as someone visiting FR daily
I knew about FR years before DU.
I go to FR to see some of the off the wall comments. It is like watching an episode of Jerry Springer but the scary thing is you know they are serious.
Although I consider myself conservative on most issues. I find the posters here are more caring and more intelligent.
I do find FR is a little quicker when it comes to breaking news. But you have to weed through a lot of crap to get to the informative posts
There's one DUer about to be tombstoned.
They have such small brains.
That's the one thing you can be sure never to read at the DU: "Sorry guys, going offline now, gotta get up early for work in the morning".
You prove your love and humanity by calling for the assination of the President and the Pope or anyone else who disagrees with you?
Yeah, Ghandi has nothing on you folk.
I can't figure out if it's more humorous or just the absolute shear stupidity of their rants which make them so extraneously out of touch with everyone.
They are so irrelevant, paint drying has more chance of gaining interest than these complete numbskulls do. All the hate and vile these whiners spew is unbeleivable considering the position they've created for themselves.
I'm willing to start a fund raiser to buy airtime for these digressives so they can regurgitate their Anti-Americam, Anti-War, Anti-Bush, Anti-Right Anti-Common Sense, Anti-Religious, Anti-Anything Good agenda!!
Aw... you're just giving Gary Larson reasons to start up "The Far Side" cartoons again...
Good point, the more facetime they get, the more the average American will realize what a hateful bunch the left is.
Has obviously never seen the crevo threads, watched paleocons and neocons go at it, never seen the objectivists fight with the Christians, etc...
It's just another form of abortion, it's called a:Poster Abortion, LMAO!
Poster Abortion... LOL
Digit (1000+ posts) Thu Jul-21-05 01:43 AM I just lost ANOTHER job
At first, it was great, like a honeymoon. My boss had warned me that when he became stressed...he became "bossy". Well, I would not classify it as "bossy". I tried to give him a message, and as I handed it to him, he RIPPED it out of my hand. It was so abrupt, it startled me.
He was downright scary at times, and I told him so today as he let me go. He said he had warned me in the interview, but he did not give his moody times real representation. He scared the **** out of me at times.
I let him know I had already applied for two other jobs as well.
My co-worker today was making snarky remarks about gays, asking who was the "man" in a lesbian relationship regarding our customers. I did not join in the conversation, but my boss did. I was only quietly getting pissed off. I am not gay, nor even bi-sexual, but the fact that people were being judged was ticking me off.
Anyway, I was let go today, early, and paid through the end of the month.
**** you very much.

3. How do people w/poor anger mgmt like that get to be supes?
If it's any consolation Digit, I was asked not to come back last night from a position I hadn't had for two days. I was working as a secretary/personal assistant for a consultant. Yesterday she screamed at me in front of a client for "breaking her printer." After the client had left, I told her that I was an adult and wanted to be treated as such (what I didn't say is that she needs to quit buying cheap ass equipment, but I wanted to). So after a very LOOOONG discussion that went nowhere, she told me that she was the way she was and she couldn't change. I told her that she was the only one she COULD change. She sent me home early and then called around 7 last night to tell me not to come back, since it wasn't a good thing we had a "personality clash" so early in our association (yeah, like I'm just supposed to sit back and take her tantrums).
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

5. You know, the best revenge is living well.
And when you get a job with a good boss and don't have to deal with the daily stress of out of control authority, you win.

I hear John Bolton may be hiring over at the U.N.
I think the Avg American realizes this already. The only reason Bush hasn't totally demolished the left is because unfortunately, the avg American thinks it's wise to have some kind of balance within gov't from both parties.
If there were no MSM, the dem party as we know it today would cease to exist.
Incredible. I have yet to hear a DUmmy offer *one* counter-point to the anti-war rants on DU, even as opposition research.

No wonder they can be on DU all the time. Can't keep a job.
Somehow I have trouble feeling any sympathy. In fact, HAHAHAHA.
My first big surprise when I began lurking around DU on election night was that they truly believe the MSM is totally in the tank for Bush! It's true. To them, it's so obvious that Bush is just trying to take over the world and enrich his buddies that the only explanation for the MSM's failure to expose this is that they're in cahoots with him. Their proof is that media outlets are owned by corporations and, as we all know, all corporations are eeeeevil! It's rather simple, really.

Does this place depress the hell out of anybody else?
I mean DU.
I feel like I have an addiction to an abusive spouse or something sometimes. I can't stop coming here, but something, every day, makes me feel like ****, whether it's an individual person's nasty post, or an administrative decision that doesn't make sense, or just the general state of the world that I'm confronted with by staying informed.
Is it just me having a downward spiral? Is DU particularly dysfunctional or is it just the way of all things?
I hate it when my safe haven makes me cry.
