Hello. I am a college student that has gotten interested in politics within the last few years. I come from a long line of independants who raised me to vote for whom I agree with the most, not based on party affiliation.
Last night, I attended a performance of Margaret Cho in Indianapolis. One of the last things she mentioned was all of the hatemail she recieved from members of Free Republic. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Surely this has to be a joke. So when I got home, I read the hatemail on her website. Then I logged onto this site and read some more. It wasn't a joke.
Call me naive, but it seems to me that Margaret Cho is so "hateful" because, like me, she is angry and doesn't understand why people are so afraid of giving others equal rights. If gays and minorities contribute to the workforce, pay their taxes, and want to enjoy the rights that other Americans (straight whites) do, why shouldn't they be allowed that? What are conservatives so afraid of? It was interesting to me that when posters had no legitimate argument, they resorted to making comments about Cho's weight and race as a negative, which reminds me of how sixth graders behave. I was disgusted with the comments posted by the members, and it saddened me that these people are probably teaching their own kids racism, homophobia, and bigotry at home.
Please explain to me, without being so racist, bigoted, and just plain nasty as you were about Ms. Cho, why so many conservatives feel that it's perfectly fine to limit the rights of people they don't identify with, why it's okay for pharmacists to refuse contraceptives base on their own opinions, and why you believe that it's okay for Dubya to limit choice, freedom, and continue to make it easier for corporations to harm the environment.
It doesn't make sense to me, how seemingly intelligent people are so adament about taking a step backward. I would like to hear your thoughts, since I only have one Republican friend, and the only thing he'll say is that he's a Republican b/c his dad is, and that he's just against partial birth abortion.
P.S., I would especially like to hear from those of you who wrote the hatemail to Margaret Cho, because I am interested in what you have to say about this...

Bye bitch.
Never sent her any mail but challenged many lies written by others on her blog.
classy screename
So she DID get my emails.
I had this really irresponsible boyfriend. I was having such a bad time in my life, and my lost fame kept coming up as the reason why ... and I got pregnant, and I had to have an abortion, so I went to the doctor to have an abortion, and I'm having the abortion, and the doctor said, "You know, when you had your TV show, it really didn't capture who you are as a comedian. And I think if you go back and do it again, that you should really strive for more creative control." And I said, "You know what? That's fine, but could you just kill my baby?"
Charming lady, isn't she? *rolling eyes*
Mainly because liberal scum like you do so.
my question (to anyone) is what special privleges? i have never heard anything stated by anyone gay requesting "special privileges".
Oh? Shall we talk to the citizens of Toronto who were told that a beauty pageant for women was not on, yet one for she-males was?
next thing was "those who (i think you meant whose) religious or moral perspective says such behaviour is wrong." so your religion tells you that something is wrong? if you think something is wrong- Don't do it. if you stand for or against something- by all means voice your opinion about it. but the problem with society (both conservative and liberal) is that they think they should be able to enforce those opinions and beliefs on the rest of us.
Liberal bottom feeders such as yourself want to force society into "acceptance" not "tolerance". There is a difference. Tolerance means you go your own way. "Acceptance" means we're forced to silence any criticism.
whatever happened to live and let live? until we all agree to disagree there will never be any kind of balance in society. this will only lead to war. aren't we civil and mature enough not to have civil war II?
As previously stated, it's not tolerance you're after or "live and let live". You're not going to be happy until everyone "accepts" the homosexual lifestyle as "normal" or at least is forced to "accept" it publicly. That's not tolerance, that's not live and let live - that's shoving your belief system down someone else's throat.
And pardon me if I want to shove my boot so far up your arse that your breath will smell like shoe polish for a month for telling me what I may or may not think.
