I like this post over there:
From the Johns Hopkins procedure manual:
e. Advise patients unable to meet 80% coverage of their liability of other available payment options: Medical Assistance application, Installment Payments, Financial Assistance, special funds, etc.
http://finance.jhmi.edu/finance/Forms/FIN041.pdf
Johns Hopkins DOES accept Installment Payments. Then WHY did they need $50K up front????

Johns Hopkins DOES accept Installment Payments. Then WHY did they need $50K up front???? Because the "money lady" told them to bring the whole chunk of change in a brown paper bag over to the Johns Hopkins reception room and just leave it on the counter.

Then WHY did they need $50K up front???? It's a down payment on the underwear and cigarettes he'll be stealing during his recovery.
Bur seriously, the answer is that they didn't. If he really had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer four months ago it would be completely in operable. Also, see the photo in post 44...I'm told it was taken recently, and he sure doesn't look like they've been putting him through chemo... They didn't.
