There will be no knee jerk republicanism from HundredPercenter. In front of a traitorous crowd, Laura Bush managed to embarrass herself, husband and the office of the President, and was cheered by the libs for doing it. In addition to that, her humorous belittling of a war time President gave America's serious enemies propaganda material.
It's not a laughing matter.
Please don't offer me the standard "lighten up- it was only a joke" excuse for what many boring--yet serious conservatives deem as poor conduct by the First Lady, especially during a time of war. You know damn straight that if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Mr. Kerry and Mrs.Terry Kerry, true GOP'ers would revile them as Hollywood pandering denigrates.The office of the Presidency is serious business-- it should be treated as such.
A summary up Mrs. Bush's comments:
"I've been attending these dinners for years and just quietly sitting there," the First Lady told the audience. "Well, I've got a few things I want to say for a change."
I am married to the president of the United States, and here's our typical evening: Nine o'clock, Mr. Excitement here is sound asleep, and I'm watching Desperate Housewives- with Lynne Cheney. Ladies and gentlemen, I am a desperate housewife. I mean, if those women on that show think they're desperate, they oughta be with George.
"I was a librarian that spent 12 hours a day in the library. Yet somehow I met George."
One night, after George went to bed, Lynne Cheney, Condi Rice, Karen Hughes and I went to Chippendale's. I wouldn't even mention it except Ruth Ginsberg and Sandra Day O'Connor saw us there. I won't tell you what happened, but Lynne's Secret Service codename is now "Dollar Bill."
But George and I are complete opposites - I'm quiet, he's talkative, I'm introverted, he's extroverted, I can pronounce nuclear -
I saw my in-laws down at the ranch over Easter. We like it down there. George didn't know much about ranches when we bought the place. Andover and Yale don't have a real strong ranching program. But I'm proud of George. He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."
Male horse? How is any of this funny?
While 150,000 of America's sons are overseas fighting for their lives and ours, Mr. and Mrs. Bush have the luxury of laughing it up with Hanoi Jane Fonda, Goldie Hawn, Al Franken and a multitude of many other Hollywood idiots--very nice. The fact that President Bush was in the same room, laughing, with Jane Fonda irks me to the point of believing it's all a sham-- defaulting to the theory of an oligarchy.
If it were anyone else, literally anyone, I would have no problem with a few tawdry jokes. I am no prude.
I know many of you will disagree with me and say that I am being overly critical-- maybe so. However, for some strange reason, I feel the President and his wife should reserve their raunchy jocular moments for a much more private affair. Call me old fashioned.
Don't tell me Bush is representing the people who put him in office for a second term.

Frankly- Freerepublic is an appropriate place for conservatives to discuss the state of our party, isn't it?
No place on the internet that is public is apropriate for saying things we don't want our enemies continuing to quote for years to come.

Besides, was this vanity really necessary given the fact that there are tons of other threads on this subject?
