It's sort of like his lucky CIA hat...
SANTA FE, United States (AFP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry hailed Christopher Reeve as "America's hero" and vowed to drive on the dead Superman actor's crusade for stem-cell research.
...Kerry said the last time he heard from Reeve was on Saturday, when the actor left a message on his cellphone, enthused by the Massachusetts senator's decision to raise stem-cell research in Friday's second presidential debate.
Oh really? WHO TV (Des Moines) October 11th, 2004 - According to sources close to the actor, Reeve died Sunday. The actor fell into a coma on Thursday after going into cardiac arrest at his New York home. It's true - Kerry will say ANYTHING to get elected...
Update: WHO Des Moines appears to be the only one reporting he went into a coma on Thursday. ABC, CNN, and others are reporting that he had a heart attack at his Pound Ridge, New York, home on Saturday during treatment for an infected bedsore wound. He fell into a coma and never regained consciousness. CNN puts it this way:
Kerry's cellphone is a little less magical, now it's just a bit suspect...
Reeve went into cardiac arrest on Saturday after developing an infection last week from a pressure wound, which is a common complication for people living with paralysis.
He then fell into a coma and died at home on Sunday, surrounded by his family.
I guess what remains to be seen is did he call John Kerry on Sat.
He meant George Reeves, who played Superman on TV. Can you all get it right???

BEDFORD, N.Y., Oct. 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Christopher Reeve died suddenly at 5:30 p.m. yesterday of heart failure. He was 52 years old.
On Saturday October 9, Reeve fell into a coma after going into cardiac arrest while at home. Reeve was being treated for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection. Reeve was admitted to Northern Westchester Hospital on Saturday evening and never regained consciousness. His family was at his side at the time of death.
Dana Reeve, Christopher's wife, issued this statement: "On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband. I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."
"The family asks that you respect their privacy at this very difficult time, "said Wesley Combs, publicist for Mr. Reeve.
Reeve is survived by his mother Barbara Johnson and his father Franklin Reeve, his brother Benjamin Reeve, his wife Dana, their twelve year old son Will and his two children from a former relationship, Matthew (25) and Alexandra (21).
At this time, no plans for a funeral have been announced. Additional information will be released as soon as it is available. Please visit http://www.christopherreeve.org for the most up-to-date information.
For those who care to do so, the family has requested that donations be made in his honor to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation -- http://www.ChristopherReeve.org. Cards may be sent to the family in care of the Foundation at 500 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081.
Hey Owl, Mr. Reeve is on Line 2...
People die from these infections. My father had one. Christopher Reeve died from it. If Reeve's infection started the past week, and he died Sunday, there is no way he was talking on the phone Saturday.
Looks like post 223 makes everything quite clear.
Apparently what happened is that Kerry said yesterday (Monday) that Christopher Reeve called him on Saturday to thank him for discussing stem cell research during the debate the night before (Friday). However, Mr. Reeve had gone into a coma on Thursday, the day before the debate, and never recovered, so any claim by Kerry of a phone call on Saturday is thoroughly discredited.
Done.
Yah there are a few of us willing to resist the impulse to look like a tinfoiler but we seem to be outnumbered on this thread. The call could have come late Friday or early Saturday. The timeline alone isn't enough to close this case but some folks got excited by the premise of this thread (which was erroneous) and now are playing at cyber-diagnostics to force the few facts we do know to fit the conclusion they want. Maybe Kerry did lie but I don't see enough to try to make the claim and I see way too much danger of being debunked as a crank if I did try.
Ah, that makes sense. I remember him talking about Reeves during the debate, though I don't remember exactly what he said. I thought that's when he was supposed to have made the comment that Reeves called him. Okay, kerry made the comment yesterday. In what forum? An interview, speech, or what? I suppose I'll find out as I continue to read through the thread. Unfortunately, I'm doing a couple other things too, so this could take some time.
I guess Reeves called kerry (while in his coma) to assure him that he'll be voting for him November 9 (that's the election day for dems.) Now that he's dead, I guess he'll be voting twice.
True, but despite those points, it is a fact that John Kerry, no anyone here nor a Republican, has made Mr. Reeves' death a political issue. Between John Kerry blatant pandering and John Edwards' outrageous statement last night, the democreeps take the political discourse to another low.
This is the accurate view of the situation.
You don't go from gabby to dead in 12 hours.
Reeve was in Very Bad Shape for days. This is like Kerry hearing that CIA men were in Cambodia, but failing to understand they were inserted using locals' boats, not Swift Boats.
So the 900 that had him in a coma on sat. have him making calls from the coma ward?
Me thinks Kerry has been hanging out with Al Gore, his buddy that invented the internet.
"There should be medical records verifying exactly when Kerry was admitted to the hospital and the approximate time of his heart attack and coma"
We could only wish!
Even if Reeve went into a coma on Saturday, are we to believe that he was in such great shape the night before that he watched the debate and decided, "Hey, I'm going to track down John Kerry's cell phone number and call him tomorrow." If he went into a coma on Saturday and died the following night, he couldn't have been in good-enough shape to be calling politicians.
Yes, the Kool-Aid can do wondrous things.
Note that the first statement is in no way linked to the second. The news outlets that interpreted this to mean he became comatose or otherwise incapacitated on Saturday are making a very large assumption - a word you can't spell without "ass."
Look up "systemic infection" and show me it can take you from chatty to room temperature in less than 24 hours.
The statement even said he had a Serious Systemic Infection for a week.
Let's see who else he called. Would Kerry be high on his list?
Believe what you want. The premise of this thread is that Reeve was in a coma on Thursday and Kerry heard a message from Reeve on his cell phone on Saturday regarding Friday's debate. If the Thursday coma was true then Reeve could not have called Kerry. But the Thursday coma isn't true Reeve went into a coma sometime Saturday. What we know is that there is a window of time from the debate on Friday until Reeve's coma on Saturday when he could conceivably have left a message for Kerry. If that's the way it happened its certainly remarkable or maybe Kerry isn't telling the truth. We just don't have enough information right now to reach a firm conclusion one way or the other.
