So that what was all the flourishing of the pen as Bush spoke. He lies and he cheats; what more can was want in a President?

I hope he hangs on this one; but of course; with friends like the Media. . .probably not.

That is what is so damning about these people; they know they can do 'whatever' and will;' and know they can get away witih it.

Maybe he won't this time.

Kerry undoubtedly knew the questions ahead of time, probably WROTE some of them himself.

Was knowing ALL ahead of time part of the "preparation"?

What was on those index cards, we'll never know as they've been shredded, burned, and pulverized.

Don't be so sure - what people saw on the 'net was what appeared to be a low-res video capture. The original recording will likely have much more detail. It still may not be enough to read what's on the piece of paper/card, but there is little doubt that a high-resolution capture will show that it is paper or a card with writing on it. In the context of sKerry's other character flaws, this is quite useful.

As for the "conspiracy theory", it was also a "conspiracy theory" that eventually showed the falsified/fraudulent documents that CBS used on '60 Minutes' to try to discredit the President's Air Guard service. To myself, and most other right-minded people, there's enough evidence to pursue the notion that Kerry had advance notice of at least some of the questions, and had written and rehearsed 2-minute answers to each.

A poster yesterday did an analysis of Lehrer's speaking and came up with the theory that it was not the media "sharing" the questions with Kerry. Rather it was the Kerry campaign that actually shaped the subject matter and questions first and then let Lehrer know the matter and questions. That actually sounds more plausible. It puts the fraud further removed from the point of contact and further back in time to be less traceable.

"And since he wasn't allowed to bring in anything to read... why would he need reading glasses? "

To read any notes that he made on the paper the debate officials provided for him. I would have to have reading glasses to read my own notes. Now if he does not EVER wear reading glasses then that can be found out easily enough. And if he does NOT wear them EVER then WHOAH! What else would he need to take with him given that paper and pen are already there? Nothing that I can think of.

I was just stunned and sick to my stomach when I read it. I still am.

"What could he do without looking petty?"

If he knew; he could have made a cutting joke/remark about it. . .like suggesting when Kerry made a mistake; he could have said; maybe that isn't on you note cards; but. . .

But alas; hindsight is one thing and with Bush; good manners always prevail.

I just hope justice does the same.

I need to read the debate again and see where SKerry messed up. Was it when he was answering Bush's accusations and not Lehrer's questions?

"What was he going to be reading during the debate?"

The notes he expected to make with the pen and paper provided to him.

If someone can furnish me with a good high-res file of the sequence, I can do some processing on it for a better look. (I do digital forensics work, including forensic video.)

I think you might be wrong about the handshake. Lehrer shook the President's hand first and then went over to shake Kerry's hand. Both the President and Kerry thanked him.

So why does Kerry need a freaking cheat sheet? Ye gads and little fishes. The fact that he'd resort to something like this, risk getting caught...Wow.

And what's he gonna do for the next two debates? Have his fancy French cuffs serve as crib sheets? What's he going to do without notes? Have a melt down is my guess.
