I think part of the problem was the rules of the debate. I think they made some deals that Kerry welched on but the President stuck to because it was a matter of honor for him. Kerry lied throughout the debate (things like the bridge in NY being closed). The President was restricted from addressing him directly with questions. I agree, he could have done better but I also think he was set up and quite upset about it.

Bottom lone is really that Bush should have answered the questions better. He did the same thing in 2000, just stood there smiling looking like a deer in the headlights.

After the next debate...because of all the cheating taking place by the other side...and the fact the side doc was not signed I wish James Baker would move to NOT ALLOW anymore debates.

The debates will ultimately help Bush. While you might argue that Bush is ahead and thus doesn't need the help, a 53-45 win isn't going to be good enough. Bush needs to establish that he was not "selected", he was emphatically and overwhelmingly elected. I think the debates will help him accomplish that.

Everyone should follow this link and read this poster's account speaking of POW/MIA list:

"We had worked so hard and carefully to get that list and with a deft swoop of the pen -- President Clinton had defeated all our efforts."

-How was it clinton put it, something like: "Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Cool."-

Basically it shows that Kerry is not trustworthy even in the most insignificant of points. I think that makes it very significant when we are talking about electing a man we have to trust for many different reasons.

Well, Bill Weld told Bush that Kerry would lie. Why Bush didn't just come back later and say "I have to correct the record here. Contrary to what the Senator said, the NYC subway system was NEVER shut down during the RNC." That's it. That would have exposed Kerry as a liar.

Bush was not "set up." James Baker agreed to the terms of the debate.

My interpretation of W"s facial expressions were that they were expressions of disgust

---

It doesn't matter what they were. He should have known better, since he was told that there would be a split screen.

---

Are you sure? The debate rules stated that no shots of the candidate's reactions would be allowed. There were split screens, but did Bush know really know about them at the time if the debate? Maybe that is why he didn't try to hide his disgust?

What is troubling to me is that the president has not come back even on the campaign trail with some corrections to the lies that Kerry spouted off.

Why is he leaving the impression that the bridges were closed. Or that there may be a draft? Or that there are no Iraq/AQ connections? Or that we diverted troops from Afghanistan to Iraq?

It's one thing for Tommy Franks to correct the record, which he did, but people want to hear it from the president and it will certainly receive more press if the president discusses these matters.

Kerry's movements are not consistent with merely pulling out a pen

He is not allowed to pull out a pen either; but it does look like something other then a pen (I am sure that he will tell us that it was just a picture of Tereza)

The camera shots were ruled, but never enforced. The media could take whatever angle they wanted to.

And in this case, it helped; more angles of Kerry's cheating.

Drudge is now reporting that a zoom shot from a Boston.com site indicates Kerry pulled out a "mysterious card", not a pen as others have suggested.

Dear MistyCA,

"Basically it shows that Kerry is not trustworthy even in the most insignificant of points."

Folks voted for William Jefferson Clinton.

Twice.

Few who are not already supporting President Bush would not blink an eye if Mr. Kerry brought out his own pen.

A cheat sheet, however...
