[history]
Dear Free Republic Friends,
My old friend and brother-in-arms BADJOE has promised to warm the cockles of our hearts by publishing an expose (the truth about JimRob and Free Republic according to Joe) on the 18th of this month, which represents the one year anniversary of the date he last posted to FreeRepublic.com and started up with LibertyPost.org.
So, as I believe that only the truth can set you free, and based upon the stratergery of pre-emptive strike, I have a confession to make (before BADJOE makes it public):
I have poisoned the well.
By my sly innuendos behind the scenes.
By my intellectual ineptitude.
By not trusting those that brung me to the dance to bring me home.
By my biting every hand that fed me.
By my arrogance that causes me to think I did it all by myself.
By my stubborness not because of principle, but because of my lack of ability to see what is transpiring.
Evidenced by:
One would think that with half again as many Freepers. with a recovering economy, It would take a great deal less time to raise the necessary funds.
By this time in the June 2002 effort with a goal of $70,000 we had raised $73,000. Not because of who did the fundraising, but because the sense of purpose, of family, of comaraderie, was still present.
BADJOE rang the warning bell, but none heard.
Conclusion:
It is a sad day.
For what was once a great hope, a means of bringing together those who are willing to pay dearly in blood, sweat, and money to save this country, we all love, has been reduced to an asterisk.
So sayeth BADJOE as he promises to publish all this and much more on the 18th. He's been feverishly working on this "project" for one full year. In addition to the "truth about JimRob" BADJOE intends to further betray our trust placed in him by revealing the names of our moderators. And who knows what else?
I can hardly wait.
Is it the 18th yet? Tick, tock.

I am hoping for Jim to be fair.Fairness comprises the entire marketplace of political web sites.
Yet you are still here. I sense that you do think this web site is pretty "fair", else you wouldn't be here.
BTW, there are many active political threads on this web site right now. I think you should stay here and enjoy them.

I think its a legitimate question. After all, its not your everyday poster who has multiple windows open at any one time and has current and backdated versions of a thread all going at the same time like Saber says he does. Seems like a lot of trouble to go to simply to read about current events. How would you know how many windows the everyday poster has open. Who cares anyway.

You saw the post on LP...I wonder what you are implyiing (sic) here..I gave before today. You want me to draw you pictures or what?
To: Texasforever
All the really good posters are gone. Just ask 'em. LOL
To: independentmind
How would YOU know , since you joined in 2000?
Civility ? I've been a lurker and then a member here for well over 5 years. There've been flame war after flame war here. The supposed " substantive " arguments, that you miss, must have been made by those who agreed with you, because some of THE best postings were made long before you ever joined.
To: Fledermaus
Many of the things I've read in this thread remind me of the same arguments, whining, complaining about "fairness", attacks on the Sysops if someone got "banned" (as I did on the Republican Forum on Compuserve for 6 months once) that went on back then. And by "back then" I'm talking only around 1991-92 or so. That's one of the cool things about Usenet - no one can "ban" you from posting there unless you REALLY mess up badly enough that your ISP cancels your Internet account. Then, you just get another and carry on.

BTW, for the record, if anybody cares at this late hour of the night, I think that what Badjoe is doing to this website and to the moderators of this website is a disgrace.
Goodnight...

You guys go on and on droning about absolutetly nothing. Don't you ever get sick of it? Who cares?????
You posted a thread in anticipation of Badjoe's "bombshell," and so, most of the Mods came out from behind the curtain. Fair enough, but that leaves unaddressed some of the lingering problems with the Mods. Several of the Mods took pains to to defend the banning policies, but that didn't address the inconsisitencies in those policies. It's either a level playing field, or it isn't. Who cares? Posters on your website care.

I think you've inadvertently hit on part of your problem, Saber. Multiple windows? You really, REALLY need to take a break from this place for a while.
The problem for you, apparently, is that I caught your post advocating violence against Tom McClintock. One of us, at the least, needs a break.

Great, if Usenet works for you...enjoy.
Personally, I think that total free for all would look more like DU. I don't want to be on a forum that just gets into name calling. Or the same, old, tired arguments just get retread with different language or rhetoric or verbal attacks.
Like I said, been there, done that.

Two people did. The posts were removed, but the posters remained and didn't even get a warning on that one. The lying sack of sh!t comment did get a "knock it off or you're out of here!" from the admin. But, he's still around and still sliming with his friends. I'm avoiding those threads right now, but the shame is, I shouldn't have to. Others are doing the same, and these are peaceful posters -- even some who don't agree with creationism. It's a sewer on the crevo threads and I see most of the religion threads (which could also get rather rowdy) have become threads where Catholics congregate peacefully. Any debating seems to be more rare these days (not gone, but not quite as visible.)

How would you know how many windows the everyday poster has open. I never claimed to "know." All I claimed is that it seems odd for a poster to have multiple windows open, carrying present and back versions of the same thread. I'm still struggling to understand how that helps a user to read material on FreeRepublic.
Who cares anyway.
Saber does, apparently. He brought it up when I asked.

Ok, I'm too tired to try to solve all these problems tonight. I promise you I will work on fairness, level playing fields and such tomorrow. And I'll work on recruiting super-moderators that can each read and decipher 20,000 or more posts each and every day while reading the minds of the posters and who can judge at a glance who's at fault when two or more groups of people are at each others throats and then devise the perfect call that will satisfy the blood lust in all of the combatant's hearts without ticking off anyone. And, of course, to do it all fairly and consistantly.
