Yes, Abram was a sinner. That's part of the wonder of this story. God can take fallen sinners like Abram--and me--and use us in His plan. Isn't that incredibly wonderful? If you read further in this story, you will also see that God took care of both Hagar and her baby.

G_d promised Abram a son with Sarai, they both waned in their faith and took matters into their own hands. G_d choose not the son of fornication but the son of His intentions. The one of holy conception.
